Should I choose 20lvl? I only played 3 hours of fallout 4. Should I start fresh or start with more gear aand 20 lvl going out of vault 76? Pros and cons please

Level 2. You should probably learn how to play this game before the enemy scaling starts making enemies too damage spongy.

Start at level 20 if you want to struggle for no benefit.

In my opinion better start from level 1 or 2, because instantly getting 20 levels without doing anything is so stupid. Better to gain experience and learn the mechanics and game world on your own. If instant leveling is good then why not make every new player level 100 or 200 immediately. What's the point of the game anyway if you get levels without doing anything? Bethesda is a joke.

Leveling up is quick, plus there is no unicue or hqrd to come up with gear.

Get level 2 and go scramblinng around every nook and cranny. Thats the best part of this game

I started playing 2 days ago and I'd recommend starting at level 20.
You can respec at 25 anyway and you want to get to 50 asap either way.

My conclusion after reaching level 28 now is that I would've saved alot of time, even if people say it's quick, if I started at 20.

For people who played Fallout4, there isn't much to learn anyway.

My frıend started on lvl 20 so I choose that. I see that there ıs no difference and hitting lvl 50 is key. We also try to convince our friends to buy the game so it makes more sense for us to play all the world offers because opening hours might be boring but thank you all!

I've started at level 20 first and didn't really like the experience and noticed a weird feeling where I felt that it might be smart to start over, with only 12 hours in. I deleted that character and started over again at level 2. What you will notice the most is that you feel stronger at level 2 with "bad" weapons still doing fairly well against your enemies. You will also level up your crafting much more naturally, which for many players is a core part of the (entire) game. THIS ended up being the reason I missed starting at level 20, you simply don't have the parts to craft strong gear suited for your level.

It only takes about 20-30 hours to get to level 20 the normal way, but those 20 hours include many more Caps, weapon and armor parts, you'll have a more specialized build towards how you want to play.

The downside of starting at level 2? If you randomly buy perk cards, or don't pick a clear route you'll end up spending level up perk cards on things you'll end up not using along the way to level 50. I found starting at 2 made the game more enjoyable to play reaching the higher levels.

However... those are 20 hours, with a risk of gimping your build along the way, which you can only fix properly later on. At level 20 in my level 2 playthrough my sniper/rifle did a whopping 20 more damage per shot, as my rifle did at level 24 with my level 20 start.

This game is about collecting scrap, recipes and plans. Skipping part of the timeline might seem smart at first, but 20 hours in an MMO that can last you thousands is almost nothing. So I'd start at 2 and enjoy the journey and difficulty curve as it was intended.
20 is a good start, It was much more fun leveling an alt than from low level.
Chainsaw is a level 20 weapon and you can pick 3-4 up a day and mod them through the vendor mods. It does not rely on ammo, if you need a good main or backup weapon.
This game is very forgiving, don't listen to people that say learn the game, this isn't a mmo you won't be facing a boss that requires mechanics. You can just run across the map and learn the game. All this game requires is reading.
Mutations are also your best friend, the quicker you get starched genes the better.

The game is at its most challenging in the first 50 levels.

I recommend starting level 2 the first time out. More chances to learn the baby steps. As it is, the starter perks and equipment they give are really kind of bad.

Youtube has guides up for when you realize that leveling to 50 is trivial.

Starting at 20, Newbie is likely going to be around Garrahan HQ in his 30's when the HP Sponginess is in full swing. There will be his first fights against Assaultron and Major Gutsy. Not going to be pleasant.

Thanks to OP for asking this, as I was just about to ask the same

I've played a lot of Fallout before, but new to this (watched the Fallout show and felt for some 'new' Fallout ), so I started at lvl 2. I like to take things slowly and learn the basics of things. So starting at 20 is mainly for people who played before, or for creating an alt like someone mentioned?

One thing: Is it possible to play the game completely solo, or will we need to play with others at some point, please?

I think it's the "skip tutorial" effort on Bthesda part. I still enjoy getting from lvl2 every new character after 1k+ hours in.

Game is designed for solo play as a leader, with party members watching your progress and choices, but not interfering in dialogue. So it IS possible to play the game completely solo in terms of not sticking with others. On public servers everybody is doing their own things, not even talking.

In terms of singleplayer game mod, you have to buy 1st subscription to basically rent a server.

Don't start at 20. You'll enjoy the struggle at level 2. I wish this game is harder and more survival mechanics introduced

If you're new start at level 1.
If you aren't happy with that character or wanna start over after you get the hang of it jump in your next character at 20 - this is ideal for Role Playing groups as you get randomized perks as a roll :VBOY:
I started over several times myself, and this would have been a godsend back then., Not for noobs though.
New player? Begin from the start no other option to be honest (if you know what i mean).
