Do the main quest-line, then when it split into two paths, do the settler side (you get the CSA plans before the point of no-return though, so you can always switch paths to the raiders if you desire after you get the plans).

You can buy it with gold bullion as i recall. I'm told you get it for free if you follow LT's advice. I sided with the raiders all three times, all good to make it on all three characters, so I probably bought it at foundation or something.

Yeah you're better off doing the Settler/Foundation main quest and nab it for free. Otherwise it's 4k Gold Bullion.

Pick settlers (foundation) quest line when you get to that point.

You don't have to choose settlers or raiders to get the suit. You get the suit by assembling the settler team, but at that point you haven't committed to either side. You can assemble the teams for both sides, then choose. So even if you do want to do the raider side (like to get Slug Buster), you can still assemble the settler team and get the suit.

This is the correct method. Do both quest lines until you get “side with crater/side with foundation” as two available quests. Then make your selection.

Raider gives Slug Buster (a named/legendary plasma rifle) as part of the raid. But that raid has a high probability of glitching out at least once.

Settler gives no additional rewards but is slightly less likely to glitch out.
