What is a fair price for plans?
Heyo, I tend to price my plans at about 1/3rd of the sticker price (or less if it's super common) and have found plenty of people selling for 100% or more.

I tend to go hunting about for good deals and tend walk away from full priced shops as I feel like I could just deal with the NPCs. Some super nice people put their plans on free or nearly free.

I realise this is all based on... nothing really. What are you folks willing to pay for plans?

i think it all depends on how rare the plans are, but i could be mistaken

It's actually based on the plan's rarity usually. A really common plan will go for almost-free (if it's a reward for treasure maps, for example); whereas plans that only drop very rarely from events, or aren't currently available at all, will run much much higher. Not all plans are created equal.

What people will pay.

Generally spare plans/recipes are some of the most common things in the wasteland so people just price them at the game default amount. Obviously there's some uber-rare plans out there but there's also been players hoarding them for 7 years so the market is completely a mixed bag and prices are more based upon "what are you willing to pay for this now".

Depends. . .

Basic plans are fairly cheap, event plans sell for more.

I sell basic camp plans for like 5-10 caps each, weapon and armor/mod plans are 10-25c each depending on what it is. Weapon plans 100-1000c each depending on the weapon. Rare plans like the new alien lamps or the alien gun plans I generally sell at like a couple hundred caps to a thousand. If I bother to sell cooking recipe plans they're usually 2c each.

A lot of the plans have actual world spawns that you can farm easily, not to mention you can farm plans with the thousands of duped treasure maps floating around in the game so plans shouldn't ever be expensive.

I tend to lop the last 0 off of the default price
i.e. 25-300 for plans
5-15 for recipes

printing money so caps are pretty much useless except for... buying more plans

I usually look at the base sell price and then if its what I would consider to be a bit of caps then Ill look it up. Theres a DB of current expected prices. Way I look at it personally is that caps are easy to earn past level 50 lets face it, 1400 a day is easy. Spend them, put stuff cheap but not too cheap and then every body wins.

All my Ammo is 1 cap regardless, all undesirable ammo I usually put at zero if weights a issue and fusion cores at 99 caps, fully charged,

Alien Blaster Plan is valued between 1600-2400.
Alien Head Lamp plan is valued between 5400-8400.

A strategy is to withhold the plans until after the event for max reward. Its all kinda pointless with a 40k cap but nice if you still need high value plans.

the vast majority of non-event plans are worthless, and best put into a donation box. There are a few exceptions that are rare, and thus valuable.

You set your own fair prices: not too low so you won't run out of caps easily, and not too high so you won't die of old age before you make a sale. Only you will know what "fair" is through experimentation. For me, I sell all rare items at 300 caps and common items at 1 to 100 caps. And I always have 30k and 40k caps with me, Some players run a "racket" in which they have to make multiple characters in order to have multiple cap pools so they can buy and sell at sky high prices. If you aren't like those people, then sell at reasonable prices like I do.

9001 caps for revolver ivory grip, very rare plan

i sell everything for 0 to 1 cap. staying under the 40,000 cap limit is the biggest problem i have in game, i don't need any more caps.

I sell all of my plans for half price. Some sell quickly, others sit for a long time.
They all cost me nothing, so any sale is a win.
