The whole server gets a warning several minutes beforehand with a text pop-up, air raid sirens goin off, blast zone marked on the map, the quest "Death from Above" starting and a robotic voice telling you to leave the area as soon as possible.
There is even an achievement for getting nuked the first time at ground zero.
You have plenty of time to pack up and switch to your other C.A.M.P. to prevent destruction.
Or to move to a different server (which you would probably do anyway, because the nuke blast zone will persist for 2 hours.
That has been patched.
Seriously, to the OP, there may be nothing of interest when it's clean, but you might be sitting in a zone that is a rich nuke-harvesting zone - either a lot of enemy spawns for the masses/fluids or some of the more rare fluxes. Mid-Savage Divide means Cobalt - are you near a lot of Firecracker Berries and/or Tree Sap?
Nuke Griefing a single player - *This is defined as repeatedly nuking a specific player, usually as often and as much as possible - essentially a Denial of Service attack but in-game, utilizing Bethesda's own game mechanics. I don't think this is possible with the current mechanics. You'd have to plan ahead of time, find the location of all of the users CAMPS, also ensuring you have someone covertly on their friend's list to port into their game should they hop servers or go private. And then it would be a one off.
Around launch "era" and shortly after (NW era) this was much easier for them to exploit/hack and they could assign nuke drops anywhere on the map (and more nukes than should be able to be dropped). The mechanics just don't permit for it anymore.
Nuke griefing the player base in general - Aiming specifically for player camps without farming, or aiming for areas that aren't beneficial to farm from while hitting camps habitually is a known form of griefing. Yes, its reportable, though you won't necessarily have results. Technically a player or group can pull this off with PvP aims completely legit, in which case arguing their cause will probably win. But it's more likely someone doing this is also utilizing an exploit in some way - in which case yes, that report is a wonderful thing for the game and player base.
I doubt anyone is ever gonna nuke me.
And if it happens, it's not even a big deal anyway.
Easily rectified in a multitude of ways.
The gameloop itself asks more annoying things of us than rectifying a nuked base could ever do.
I really wish there was a count of the people who haven’t made it out of the target area when the nuke hits. I’ve gotten quite a few late FTers, or people who didn’t realize that the red ring is just a suggestion and you might want to be further away.
You need to nuke different places to trigger events, or generate rate crafting materials for harvest. If you're not in the noobie zone, you get the benefit of nuclear risk.
