My new char is only level 75 and likely more tanky than some level 1,000's I've seen but also in a full T-65 set though and 40 of his levels is from farming events for gold.
You can do decent dps under level 100 if you're actually focusing your cards on the weapon you're using (at least until you start adding legendary stat points). If you're doing an even spread of weapons, you're going to be crap, but having heavy, expert heavy, and master heavy weapons, combined with a decent level 50 *** legendary heavy weapon puts you up there with the meta builds.
All of this is achievable before you hit level 100 if you set some clear goals.
Your Bloodied build is almost gone if you are in your PA caus the PA has no UY set. Sure you have some benefits from a Bloodied build specially with the right mutations and perk cards but a Bloodied build is not made for a PA caus like i said no UY exist for your PA.
edit: I do uh... have some caps... if anyone's got one laying around =D
There are SO many different ways to make a build. I play full health and I have more fun than I ever did with Bloodied because I can actually take a punch. Also, it frees up room to explore other perk cards.
"Watch me one shot this super mutant with 1k+ damage, bro!" You really don't need those numbers to one shot something...Use your VATS. Have fun!
It some times just be like that. I ran Shogun for a long time and World Bosses like the Queen make it feel like you're just tickling it. Shotgun has less range than other guns so when it's flying around you really aren't gonna go much since you loose accuracy. If you're using VATS I suggest you focus fire on crippling limbs (Wings on the Queen). Cripple wings on flying beasty's, makes it more likely they will land on the ground, if not they will flap about and taunt you.
You're helping out the squad even if it doesn't look like you're doing much. Just keep in mind World Bosses are tanky and aren't meant to be soloed, ever. Everybody there slapping down the damage is helping :)
It's mostly about killing BIG THINGS faster and not running from them in circles.
I've started as stealth Rifleman and it's doing good in adventure mode, but i suck in daily ops and some other events.
I see all those PA heavy weapon builds running near me just obliterating everything and i ask myself - what's wrong with my stealthy rifleman build?
I've tried expeditions once and it took me soo much time to just complete one :-/
I'm level 87 now and that's why i watch youtube for some tips :-/
I can explode whole arena but i need 5-6 shots for kiling supermutants...
I think now explosions not meta at all.
Though Bloodied meta isn't necessary. The huge numbers they show off on youtube videos isn't realistic number for average gamers, they are doing it for views and to grab attention.
Here's the perfect example, I was looking up YouTube videos to give me a starting place on my Thirst Zapper build. The Youtuber was (of course) talking about a bloodied build and showing off these insanely huge numbers. He showed which Specials you add to. Here is the problem with showing off the special stats. He did NOT include his legendary perks. So any newbie that goes and makes this build is gonna be left confused as hell as to why their Specials aren't the same numbers as what he shows off in the next frame. They intentionally leave stuff out of videos to make themselves look like some kind of bad arse.
I run a full health, unarmed melee build and I Solo Expeditions and Daily ops just fine. My armor isn't even a matching set yet.
This youtube guide below is the one I used. Helped me start to separate the wheat from the chaff as far as important cards to build for an auto rifle. He goes over the final meta build with full legendaries, but then steps back and spends far more time going over the newbie friendly version. Guides like this are great for new players, imo. There's way too much to understand about a game like this, especially when they start making you choose build perks right out the gate.

For players that just want to play the game their own style, I agree with your points. But for someone like me, new to the Fallout franchise, the game can be a bit... overwhelming.
Having someone steer you towards a certain point can create a goal for you. I like that guidance, because not everything is explained that well in some games.
That being said, most of the times I only watch 'beginner' guides, and eventually modify or completely scrap a build when I'm higher level.
