Storing Workshop Items and Logging Off?
What happens to the stored workshop items when you log off?

Also let's say I claimed a workshop, logged off, will I be able to continue from where I left off when I log back in? Will I be able to find the same stored items?

If you have a friend that is on your team that remains on server, yes.
You can rejoin the server by joining the game of anyone still on the server - should apply to just your friends list.

Not one hundred on how it works for private servers.

Workshops are only yours while you stay in the session, any stored items in the Workshop will be lost as soon as you leave the session.

Be advised they are also PVP zones.

Unbelieavable! My game just crashed while I was posting this.... I learned it the hard way ... This is really really annoying I just wanted to farm Aluminum and the things I built to maintain production far exceeded what I could farm...

And this crash just wasted everything ... I was at least hoping to get "some" materials back before I left by scrapping what I built...

I never farm from workshops or the veins in the ground, PICK up everything and you will have plenty, throw out the stuff not required, and if able equipe the scrapper perk, so much more is given.

I already have a camp on top of a junkyard and I also have hundreds of every other thing but somehow I'm eating through all my aluminum.

Normally it's best to pick a mining spot outside a workshop and put your camp there.

As for the idea of retaining a workshop. What would happen is that every single one would be owned by someone level 20,000 with god tier gear who loves PVP and will kill you before you even see them.

It is annoying to loose everything you built up but it's better than the alternative
After the crash, luckily the power was up in the work shop so I didn't have to build much. It's somewhat profitable that way but otherwise I totally agree.

I'm not sure, aluminum seems to just melt down, I dunno if it's bullets, weapon upgrades or settlement objects...

Its usually this: weapon upgrades but making them as well or a lot of repairs.

Check the requirements and that will tell you whats required.

Find something you like and stick with it, would be my advise.

For what it's worth, there's supposed to be a short timeframe between the last Fallout 1st player logging out of the private server and the server shutting down. If you manage to get back within that timeframe, you "should" get back into the same server.

Reddit says it used to be five minutes, but others are now reporting shorter.

No you won't have control over the work shop.

But items I've built in workshops seem to be stored in my camp when I log back in. Could be wrong, but that's how I remember it. Mind you, I'm logging off and going to sleep, then coming back many hours later...
