Max out charisma and the perk that gives you better barting prices, and then feel free to add any that affect crafting at your camp.
I use 2 ways on my current camp, since im close to a water source i place like 10 water purifiers, i go do some stuff and then come back collect it and sell the purified water along with anything i dont need (either drugs or grenades)
2nd method is the potato method, place lots and i mean like 60 or 70 potatoes, let em grow or salvage turbo-fert on player camps (its a grenade that instantly grows any plant) and procced to collect everything and then toss a turbo fert. (usually works with just using 2 or 3 turbo ferts per sell) After you have everything you want to sell, equip your farming build and head to an npc vendors on any train station and have fun, i usually sell 500 caps worth of potatoes and 300 to 400 worth of water.
Hope it helps fellow wastelander!!
Quests and events will reward you with caps.
Finding items other players will buy and putting them in a vendor at your camp (with the camp icon turned on) will get you caps as well. As long as you have items other players want.
Beyond that, there are cap stashes (they look like an aluminum food container with masking tape on the top middle holding a brown napkin with the word 'CAPS' scawled in black marker). Look into farming routes for them if you really want, but generally you want a jetpack for that as there are quite a few obstacles to the better routes and some can be in inconvenient to reach places.
Selling items to players is going to be a mixed bag. A lot of players do have massive amounts of caps, but they also don't really have a lot of needs.
My best experience so far is to get a relatively self sufficient build that can run Boardwalk solo and use that as primary farm, as the Turtle says. You'll get stamps, legendary modules, legendary scrip, a mess of legendaries, a decent chunk of exp, and 100 caps minimum per run. With a low(ish) damage build and no deaths it might take 12-15 minutes solo, although the 'bosses' are bullet sponges so you do need to be sure you can clear them and still loot enough ammo off the other enemies to at least break even ammo-wise.
The legendaries you get that you won't use can just go into your camp vendor for something like 5 caps * scrip value, maybe more or less depending on how quickly your inventory is piling up. Good ones should be listed for whatever they're worth of course.
Caps stash farming, though, is one of the primary ways to farm hard caps. It just doesn't provide much of anything else so you might be better off with something like Boardwalk that provides some caps but also advances your character and gives you chances at equipment upgrades.
You will get to a point that it is harder to spend your caps then earning them. Max caps is 40K and easy to get.
But I can tell you, without a doubt, perhaps now the best and easiest way to reach the daily 1400 vendor cap is by buying the plan for the Trench Runner's Hood at the stamp store. I think it's 30 stamps.
At max value, every hood is worth 16 caps, and only costs 2 cloth to make, so you're effectively gaining an ability to convert a common material into 8 caps for every unit. And you can find vast amounts of cloth in the form of burnt books at the house immediately in front of you after fast traveling to Summersville, and lots of food tray, and nuka cola cup junk items at Tyler County Fairgrounds.
