didnt find any useable freezer yet
There is one specific cooler from the last (?) scoreboard that freezes things indefinitely.
No idea if either might be available for gold bullion yet.
So yeah, "Good with Salt" might be your best option for now.
Be warned that fridges are cumbersome to use, as you can only put things in and take them out one at a time, and with a lot of items you want to store, this is a real hassle.
Think "getting water from the hand pump camp item" level of inconvenient.
Well, not quite as bad, but it's up there.
I do have that perk... But I'm looking for a way to preserve my cobblers as well... it becomes a hastle to do rundowns for berries.
Such a shame that such a basic game item is locked behind Atomic Store.
BTW I only see the Ice Box for 500, where's the small blue cooler, beer barrel or stainless refigirator?
Isn't there any way of getting plans for any of these in game? Without having to save up Atom?
But in the current game state I feel like it is a waste of a perk card. You have a lot more food drops. Every vet camp has unlocked water purifiers and food generating items. If you do any event you will get some food and drink. So staying topped off is much easier now. And now that having a empty food/water bar no longer does bad things to you and instead having a full one now gives you a buff the rare time you run low it is not really a big deal now.
Real talk though, it's really not that worth it.
If it's XP boosts you are after, you might as well do the "Feed the People" event every time it pops up - it might even be doable by a lower level solo in case no one shows, it's very easy once you know how it works.
It drops 5 Canned Meat Stews as a reward every time that give a 5% XP boost and does not spoil, and you can upgrade this with the "carnivore" mutation (to be fair, the same is true for Cranberry Cobbler and Herbivore mutation).
Likewise, if you opt for "Can Do!" card, possibly maxed, while looking for stuff, you'll soon have more canned or otherwise non-spoiling foods than you know what to do with.
The fridges are, in typical Bethesda fashion, halfassed and poorly implemented mechanically, I have both the 100% and one (or more, not sure) of the regular 50%, and I find myself not even using them.
Still requires OP to grind through the whole main quest to make Mortimer even appear though.
Edit: Right, now that I know it's there of course I find the wiki entry *sighs*
Classic a-hole design, putting it with Mortimer.
Should be with Samuel in the basic selection like the Nuka Collectron.
Who care's if it's with Mortimer instead of Samuel? It only needs Cautious, so it's not like you even need to grind reputation. It's also relatively cheap, compared to most good bullion stuff. As for being locked behind the main quest... idk, is it so wrong to actually have progression in a game that isn't gear? You do stuff, and get rewarded. Seems more than fine to me...
The problem is you are forced to do it if you want that item, unless it reappears in the store for atoms, and even then, well, atoms.
Putting it with Samuel would have made a basic convenience available for reaching Foundation and having the bullion for it.
By your logic, Samuel should be locked behind the main quest as well.
He's not, and he does offer "cautious" rep level conveniences that are not to sneeze at.
No, it's not "wrong" as such, but it would have been nicer to be offered among the first items to select from bullion grind.
A lot of the things you get from higher reputation / completing the main quest should be true endgame items, but it's all over the place. The armors, I get. The weapons, fine.
Camp allies for 4k a piece? Basic conveniences locked behind the arguably terrible main plot that no sane person has actual fun doing more than maybe twice and vomiting at the thought of doing it 3 times more on the rest of the character slots?
Artificial drag to make the suits see long play times. Call it what you will, I call it a-hole design.
Dunno when the last time you played through the game was, but the the last time I did, Samuel didn't become a vendor until after the main quest. And the wiki agrees with me, so that adds a little support to my claim. So... yep.
He wants everything being unlocked and available from the start, to be bored within 7 days and switching back to Fortnite, I guess...
Hey that is great info I will look into it. I'm fairly new to the events, not sure where to find them or what triggers them.
Yes... =(
and this ^
Currently it's not enough for me, I do roam a lot and long times. Currently I can go through 10 cobblers before they're spoiled (with the perk). This forces me to drop what I'm doing, grind berries, go back to camp, cook... etc etc... If I could just hoard some in the fridge at least I could only visit camp.
I do... And looks like others too... Some of the items Mort sells just don't make sense and should've been under Foundation roof, if not at least at both vendors...
The real problem, I noticed so far in my first week of non-stop play; Most of the BASIC, early game items are locked behind so many walls and grind upon grind... Like this fridge or water boiler etc.
By the time I will be able to afford them, I won't even care about my xp cobblers or spoiled food...
I think this is a huge oversight or bad decision making caused by greed, on Bethesda's end.
I hope they rebalance some of these...
AND THE STASHBOX! OMG don't even get me started on the 1200 limited stashbox and the tiny budget for camps...
After the main quest?!? I just started playing a week ago and Samuel was available the moment I discovered Foundation... I am just not able to afford anything from him... but at least I can see his stock and the prices so I can set goals.
Oh, interesting. Sort of weird that they allow that, since lore wise we're not supposed to have bullion until after the main quest, and he's not supposed to have a job until that point as well, but whatever. Wonder when that changed.
Anyway, I really wouldn't be worried about food spoiling at that point in the game. Eat stuff as you get it, and keep a stock of non-perishables for those points where you aren't finding food.
And assuming you are doing it for cranberry cobblers, just make relish instead. Buff is twice as powerful, lasts twice as long, and the foot item itself takes almost 8 hours to expire even without perks/cooling.
Pipe down until you know what's up, then you can try to insult me when you have a point.
You do not, so kindly shut up and let the grown ups talk.
Dunno the last time you played a fresh character, but Samuel is very much available as a bullion trader for nothing but reaching Foundation no matter what the wiki says.
I recently got a second account where none of the characters has even met the Overseer yet and Samuel is very much available for bullion trade right away.
I have been caught before by stuff "everyone knows" in this game that was lowkey changed or otherwise flew under the radar and had to admit my surprise and being wrong.
