No guilds. Only way to chat is via voice chat (and I also think there's a text chat mod?). Bases (camps) are individual, for the most part (private team members can build items they have learnt from plans in your camp).

As for building workshops with friends, I think you have to be on a private team (not public). Even then, the restrictions for the "guests" builders are very tight. For isntance, if you placed something the other person cannot move that item. If the other person places something, they will not be able to move it again after you as the host pick it up. Also. things like public teams still protect your assets like resources and locked doors. The only true "friendly" team is a private team.

PS; no experience points are earned building in workshops. Only your campsite and that may not be the case with a guest builder at your camp either.

There really should be official "guilds", that is, one for each faction you could optionally join if interested in PvP - would make a hell of a lot more sense than workshop shenanigans. Put a color-coordinated skull next to the name of Guild characters.

Or "guild zones" for specific factions so workshop take-overs have purpose besides telling the other players you're an edge lord.

Not officially, but it doesn't stop players from forming one say in Discord and playing as groups.
