Best build to play?
Hey all, so I had 1 character that I deleted because I went full Intelligence and the damage was lacking with a pistol build but now my new character also seems to be a bit lacking in damage compared to the other players, what am I doing wrong? Or should I choose a different build? I prefer to use pistols however.

Thanks all

And yes my 2nd character was also a pistol build but focused around the pistol perks instead of all the intelligence perks.

The pistol builds kinda suck in this tbh. Aside from them being painfully low damage in comparison, Almost all the perk cards you need are crammed into agility. There are plenty of guides out there and you can do good damage, but you'll never be on par with anyone else.

Also, don't delete your characters for that reason... You can change your build around freely after level 25...

I appreciate the comment, I was already confused why my damage was so low, it's a shame pistol builds are not that great :(

The pipe revolver with the .45 ammo can have some punch while waiting for a better weapon/build ... .

Which pistol is that?

Best build to play is the one that suits to your playing style. :P Pistol builds are quite difficult to pull off and they are always compromises due pistol damage perks being under Agility, you get either maxed weapon damage buffs, or maxed sneak damage buffs, you can't get them both. But it can be done and you can manage with pistols just fine but you won't be soloing the biggest bosses with them. I recommend pistol builds as secondary characters after learning the game and mechanics properly.
If you're asking what build to play that's effortless and does more damage I'd say stealthy vats commando. If you're playing full health non-meta get something like Anti-Armor fixer or handmade as primary gun and get some good railway rifle as secondary. If you need more damage go low health, junkie or some other meta but you can do without just fine.

Alright, yeah, I might switch to a different build for now till I understand how to make builds better.

Have to add that proper pistol build is really fun to play, have 3 toons that have guerrilla perks and while they are perked to other weapons too I use full auto 10mm pistols most of the time. Really recommend making pistol build later after you have better idea what to do and what suits your playing style, like I said pistol builds are compromises and it's quite important to understand what compromises you can do and how to compensate them.

Yeah, it really is a bummer that there isn't a dual wielding option. Like others have said, go another route for now, but if you really want to do a pistol build later, after you understand the perk system better and are in a better place to work with it. They are fun, I've done a few, but I also have access to some high level stuff that adds a few elemental bonuses, so my builds are all about having the right weapon for the job and I carry half a dozen pistols.

The fixer is right ... as secondary I would recommend a cold shoulder shotgun (freeze).

But hey, this game is not so difficult, if you have fun you could also use pistoles. Not necessary to min/max all games. And you can do fine with pistoles ... even if the FOTM build gives some dps increase and finish a fight 20% faster.

However, I might go make a heavy gunner build for now while I run a power armor (when I have fusion cores) but I do not seem to have the right perk cards now, what could I do? It was sorta also a reason I deleted my previous character.

Power armor is by far the easier, heavy guns or melee. Second is commando with the railway gun, maybe a secondary commando gun for the ammo weight saving.

I hope by deleting your character you don´t mean you started again with level 1?

I'm not an expert on heavy gun PA builds but one perk you should get is Stabilized. You can google builds to get some idea what other perks to get, and I'm sure people here can help you with that.
EDIT. Oh yeah, there's no reason to delete your characters, no matter how badly you mess up your build, it's always easier and faster to fix bad build than start over from vault.

Thanks, I will definitely use that one, once I get it. I am just wondering is there a way to reset your perk cards or get new ones? The cards I have now are mostly focussed around the pistol build.
