Make awesome base, spend 2 days building mah crib.
Log on the next day and got a free replacement because someone else has a base on that excact same place. Fine ill move to a new place no trouble, find a nice scenic spot to place the blueprint that the game provides for such a situation, outline green so place was fine.....
Cannot place item:needs support....hmmm?, maybe another spot would be better,

Cannot place item:needs support....bit to the left maybe and rotating the building?,
Cannot place item:needs support
Cannot place item:needs support
Cannot place item:needs support
Cannot place item:needs support
Cannot place item:needs support
Cannot place item:needs support

I have tried to place the base blueprint everywere, flat, rocky, forest, swampy running around over the entire map just praying for a spot to set down, but nowhere succeeded. After looking over the internet it seems this is a regular occuring problem...... So who is the person responsible for this lovely system?, may they find many tiny pebbles in their shoes their entire life.
Really, it was just a square 2 story building so nothing game breaking, why after all this time a major selling of this game STILL does not work as intended?, it just not works. F this ♥♥♥♥.

You fell for the poorly thought out system.

When your camp can't be placed, go back to the main menu and try again, 98% of the time you get a different server where your spot may be open for you.

NEVER LET THE SYSTEM PACK IT UP TO PLACE ELSEWHERE because, well, you noticed why.
Game struggles placing the blueprints, especially the more connected parts you have (so you have a single, big object instead of several smaller ones) and floor space it takes.

It does work if you take care with your level areas and find spots where similar areas exist, but it's hit and miss.

You can totally do it though, just takes knowing the whacky system or straight up scratching the blueprint and placing the parts by hand again.

Almost everyone here has gotten the blue print bug. And some like me have gotten it maybe 50 times. Moles-Moles never learn.

I learned a lesson about trying to do this a month ago.

Something that prevents a blueprint from being placed is if there is anything other than a foundation touching the ground. Have stairs going from the foundation down to the ground? Not going to place it.

Afaik this adressed bug (for years now) has not and will never be patched, as the physics engine is totally f***** up. Just to say, I could not place some items, but with the carpet/stairs/chair technique, I could build my entire camp UNDER the map. It still works, soo... Bethesda wakes up under the bed and sits on the monitor while drinking an empty cup of coffee ... (Bethesda logics).

I figured it out, incidentally. The blueprint bug. When you're making a blueprint, first remove all doors and stairs. THEN make your blueprint. It's the doors and stairs that are confusing the system, because it treats them as individual items rather than part of the blueprint itself.

Working as intende- .. wait. Wrong game.

I'll edit this to add: I'm aware OP was talking about a C.A.M.P. that had been packed up and not about self-made blueprints. But the reason is the same, it's the doors and stairs that are bugging it.

I am thankful for all the useful comments posted here and i have learned a hard lesson....when you find a nice place, never again EVER attempt to move your base.

I have encountered a few new situations however, one of which is where if i log out when i am in my base and i log in again i spawn in the concrete foundation forced to fast travel to the nearest location only to travel back again. It is really one step forward 2 steps back with this game isnt it?, yet i cant help myself looking forward to play again despite all this rubbish.....what foul curse has befallen me?, it is like i am back with my abusive ex again.

Just buy Fallout 1st so you get a server to yourself. It's only a modest couple hundred dollars a year to play alone. It's a minor, small, petty fee.

Don't stress. Todd has you cover.

Oh yeah, that happens to me, too. I usually just fast travel to like Foundation or Crater before I log off, to avoid that.

You can move the CAMP thingy around as well which will change where you spawn into your camp, while in build mode just pick it up and place it like you do any other object. First thing I do when I find a location I like is decide where I want to spawn in when I fast travel. Then I move the CAMP thingy around until it puts me there. It'll require you to fast travel a few times, but you can do it for free every time, just pick Foundation or something to travel to and from.

Once I've got it set right, I put something random down on my spawn location so I remember where it is, then build away. Might be a convoluted way to go about it, but it works for me.
Oh i didnt know that the Camp thingy decides where you spawn, will try out your suggestion as soon i log in again. Thank you.

I edited it as soon as I re-read, and realised you'd said when you log in. But yes, moving the camp thingy does change where you spawn in. It does sometimes spawn me into a foundation when I'm logging in however, no matter where my fast travel spawn puts me. Which is why the ninja edit lol

the game simply shouldnt log you in a server where theres someone in oyur spot the blueprint mechanic doesnt work on a good day and the map is massive finding ONE server with your spot free is easy, just relog
Metalsiren IXI May 6, 2024 @ 6:36am
I originally made my base on the conditions of the environment so when I had to move it that became a nightmare. Now ive moved to a spot I hope is forever

It worked!!, placed my C.A.M.P. on the edge of the build area in front of the base and now i spawn like a normal person instead of crushed by the entirety of the building and my feelings of guild. Thanks
