Tips for Camps?
I've finally downloaded this game to give it a shot since I love Fallout and the new mtg reveals got me in the mood to see what the mothmen are like. I'm enjoying it so far, pretty calm really with my biggest startle being some npcs called Blood Hawks when I stumbled into a camp of them while gathering supplies for my own little camp.

I ain't sure what I should be mindful of when building a camp so any tips would be much appreciated! Currently just planning on keeping it small, occasionally packing up until I find a nice wooded area with the big moths around sometimes to look at. Is that a bad idea? I just like the weird radiation moths

You might still be able to purchase some moth man decorations and furniture on the atom shop still, so give that a look up (torches, mothman egg machine). Depending on your location and nearby hostiles, you may get raided more or less. Using alot of concrete defences and building materials will become costly. If you use concrete, make sure you are not prone to scorched beast attacks (being near a fissure hole) and have ample turrets in place (heavy machine gun x 2 is my choice of turrets).

Make use of stored items and blueprints. If you pack up camp and move it while there is still objects built in your current camp, those objects will be automatically added as complete or incomplete blueprints in storage. Depending on how you build. Large blueprints built by hand usually do not place anywhere else afterwards. The key to blueprints is 1x1 foundation or 1x2. I have the least issue with that.

The Blood Eagles are raiders but they are totally brutal and have 0 morales. Unlike raiders from crater, they are a huge burden in the game. Especially for new players. Once you level up they will become less powerful. Outposts are generally challenging given the 1 vs 8+ scenarios and their petty tactics. Eventually you will find Beckett - an ally, who is trying to escape the grips of the Blood Eagles. Partaking in his multi-part medium-long quest will help you overcome the Blood Eagles.

Like all real estate the important thing is location, location, location.

Start small, don't build up until you are sure the location is safe. Fast travel back a few times a session to determine if there are any mob spawns nearby (they are at fixed locations).

Don't build in possible nuke locations, near Monongah Mine in the Savage Divide, Mine Shaft in the Ash Heap or Fissure Site Prime in the Cranberry Bog.

As for Mothmen... they are mostly random but at fixed locations. In The Forest area they will flee when engaged but elsewhere will attack and damage/destroy your camp.

As @mooman said, it’s all about location, location location.

Are you looking for a resource node so you can collect things?
Do you want to be near a water source for large purifiers?
Do you want a good view?

Every location has the possibility of aggro mob spawns. It’s just some have a higher chance of them happening. Just find a place you like and put down something simple until you decide you really like it there.

As a reminder, everybody gets two free camp slots. So you can build in two different areas of the map. Checking out even more areas to see which you like better.

Other than floors, the only items that matter in CAMP are resource and crafting and food/water. Everything else is junk. Put down a flat floor, then arrange everything in a convienient arrangement and basicly done.

Ahh I love camp building in this game. If you want an easy and pretty safe place forever just keep your place in the forest. Build a nice house with a garage and put all your resources and crafting things where they go.My current build https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3154812158

Look for mononga mine (top middle) and avoid building anything remotely near it
Look at the bottom right of the map, avoid building anything remotely near that
Look at the bottom left of the mine, by the nuka world, avoid building anything remotely near that

Refrain from external power connectors being exposed. Building a 1 x 2 or 3 and higher tower or closet based on how many stories you want and adding Wall Pass Thru connectors to send power outside can help keep power protected. It will allow a wire to be connected from the other side of a wall to the interiors power connector. You can use end pieces to snap on the opposite side of where the wall pass thru is clipping thru to send passive power off of the wall pass thru as well. Exterior Generators liek fusion power can be destroyed and most likely a priority target. I use a tall windmill and it never broke yet.

Everything y'all have said has been very insightful! Working a little on getting a small workshop set up and defended decently, so far it's pretty nice! Got reliable access to uranium and concrete, heck it even has a fusion core plant! I don't really like pvp but this place seems pretty quiet so it suits my tastes.

Really am loving this game so far, the base building is pretty nice if only I remembered to gather resources when venturing out!

All that matters is the view.

Don't worry about collectors, mining junk, proximity, fast travel or vendor traffic.

Find a spot with vistas that you like and set it down right here.

A nice cliffside, a lake, a mountain top. Build a deck and a few chairs.

I recommend at least making a garden with 1-3 of each plant-able crop, then you can brew and brew and glue and glue. (lower priority might be gourd, melon, blackberry) And then cooking food you can go for things like Veggie Medley instead of simple corn soup. With a smaller amount of vegetable crops, you can add more decoration or functional benches, and then you might use the card called "Green Thumb" Under perception to harvest 2 crops from 1 plant. Of course you can also search for Garden Foudnation tile so you can blueprint a crop planting setup as you move around.

Sounds like you are at a workshop. These locations are temporary and open you up to PvP.

A true, permanent camp you build with the camp device. Find a location, open pipboy and place camp.

I have both a camp and a workshop I am occupying. Though I do kinda like just vibing around that workshop too. I do plan on moving my camp eventually though to a place with a better view

Here's what I used before establishing the Rest Stop.

In between a settler shack and a critter spawn on the cliffs overlooking the airport is perfect. Then you've got access to a railroad station, 2 workshops, power armor spawn, 4 mineral spawns, 2 critter spawns, bobbleheads sometimes at both the airport and dry lake/marina. Scorched, Super mutants and Floaters to farm. Water access in New Gad. Plenty of wood. Downside is it's not a great location for people to visit.

Your C.A.M.P. Unit, is also a enemy spawn. So put it where some turrets, can guard it. Also, look to see if you have A.I. spawns near by, they can attack your camp. Gram can sometimes not like your camp and start to smash it. Usually happens it Gram is in the area when you log in, and gets a fence or wall in his path. Sometimes Gram can do that, even in workshops. So, be careful of that. Some area are more popular then others, so your camp could be blocked. So, use your other, free camp slot, so it that happens, you can have another location to use. Just a few thoughts.

dont get your hopes up to high, the game is pretty dumbed down to the degree of soulless grey paste, you can move your camp and its content the way they are built any time to a different location; as long its not too close to poi or another players camp.

personally i would reccomend a place where you "feel home" beeing access to different location and or npc; or you just enjoy the view
