How to stop crashes?
As the title implies, I still dont understand if some areas of the game are just much less optimized then others or if my pc is just bad lol

sometimes I can play for hours, completely fine as long as I stay within a few certain zones in the game, but because I like to do the main or side quests (especially when I run along doing responder stuff) many of those areas tend to make the game crash, then Id have to Win+Tab to task manager to close it

not sure if its webroot, or any other thing on my pc that does this but many games I play doesnt have this issue, tho - fun note; atleast I know the difference between a crash and the game just freeze-loading since the audio makes a hard buzz when its a crash, and if its just just freeze-loading it doesnt make this sound, just on my end to not execute the program on the spot

Havent done anything to modify the files, the game is as vanilla as it comes, not sure if there is some trick people have done to make the game run better for them or otherwise. I have verified the files and even changed the location to be on a SSD with larger space to see if it helps but nothing has stopped this issue.

What fps cap do you have and at what resolution you play? And have you disabled the clientside vsync in the config file?

what areas are troublesome? dense cities? events with 10+ players?

1920x1080

I dont believe I have it capped

can you clarify the clientside vsync?

I can be near vault 76, I can be in the forest area north-mid east of the map with no crashes and being perfectly fine, im not sure of the area name but there is a very grey area of the map mid-south that looks like a scorched zone that I can play with no problems at all (there is a nuka carnival there)
I have been able to do the "invaders from another world" events fine so far, maybe crashed few times ever doing those out of a the dozens of times I try to participate.

the firebreathers side quest area with the running obstacle course was a very crash heavy spot, so I try to do that area as quick as possible, same responder firebreathers spot but in the cave.
maybe near grafton it can crash a bit but not as frequest
I believe morgan town also had instances of crashing a bit, not the air port but the area near it with the bot you have to transport as an event?

sorry if im being too vague, cant remember the areas names exactly

The only way to keep a bethesda game from cashing is not to play a bethesda game.

must be one of the "optimization" from bethesda. my frame rate issues dropping to 5FPS was just fixed on the update before this current one. I already lost interest and playing plus the trial 1st that says "30 days" expiring on the 4th day is a major turn down.

"FALLOUT 76 UPDATE NOTES – APRIL 30, 2024"

This is the patch that fixed the frame rate drop but honestly I cannot see what caused it to be fixed on the patch notes. lol

This May 9 patch may bring back stability issues again so I just stop playing

All good. We have a similar system so maybe i can help you out. Im dealing with bethesda's engine since 2007 and played dozens of mmo, I got an i9 9900k and an rtx 2080 ti, its a decent chunk more powerfull but since you play on 1080p that should not be the problem. Your card has 8gig of vram, that should also be enough for that resolution.

Important is what refreshrate ( hz ) your 1080p monitor has. I assume 60 hz? So thats the fps you have to hardcap your graphicscard in the system settings. If its 120hz then your "aim" should be 120 fps, If thats not possible due to performance just lock it to 60fps aswell.

First things first, you have to turn off the vsync in the game's config file, its a vile setting that causes bad performance. You only need to change one number, thats it. Just watch this video:

Next, you have to lock your maximum fps that your graphics card creates to the hz-rate of your monitor, there is zero reason to create more fps than your monitor can even show. Here is a video:

Btw. This will be beneficial to all games you are playing.

Then start the game and go to display settings. I believe you can increase the quality options to the highest, so Ultra or High. But i would reduce the distance sliders for objects, characters etc to half and see how it goes from there.

The goal is to maintain the fps you locked in your gpu settings which again, should be the same as your monitor Hz rate.

Just try this out and see if it still crashes.
