But 15% dmg across the top can't be beat easily.
Better Criticals is for 100% crit damage
if you do a lot of crit vats go with better crits
but if you just normal vats then go with bloody mess
Try dropping out serendipity for a bit (or instead put Ricochet in its place) see how you get on. Just don't scrap the card an you can always swap it back.
Oh and I have both Bloody and Better crits already, I'm thinking of dropping one to add Ricochet.
Balance the odds.
45% vs 18%
15% vs 100%
You'll find the higher percent will have a higher chance to happen and performs better, which means more/a higher DPS overall.
remember that ricochet does not work against players
If you're doing shotguns go with crits - you're going to be close range most often so use melee mobs to shield you from firearms and utilize Blocker. If you switch up to either a very low or very high rate of fire gun bloody mess is likely the way to go. Like I said I usually do both and switch out as needed.
High crits has never been impressive to me; by the time I get around to using it the mobs are mostly dead, anyway. If your damage out put hasn't overcome the power curve yet it's probably most useful.

Bloody Mess is by far the better of the two.
And it's hilarious to grab loot from some random eyeball 20 meters away.
Always Works > Sometimes Works
Crit damage is extra damage added to the hit. You can continue to scale crit damage via perks, mutations, legendary effects, food buffs etc.
But... try it and see?
You are looking at
15% additive damage
So you have to take your base 100% + all additive sources (most perk cards ex commando... most drugs and other effects)
So if you have NOTHING to boost damage... it will be a 15% bonus
IF you are bloodied, adrenal, with drugs or other boosts it will be like a 3-5% bonus
Vats IIRC are a multiplier to your damage but its still just an additive...
So if you are using NO critical multipliers then this is 50% bonus
IF you are say using blight soup for 187.5% bonus critical damage already
it would be 287.5% vs 337.5% or closer to like 15%... add other critical bonuses from cards etc and it again shrinks to a 5-10% bonus
The BEST one is weapon fire speed as this is a straight 25% damage multiplier every time
