Do Brahmins die of old age or something?
Seriously, I can afk at my camp for hours and not get attacked once. But every time I leave my camp and come back for any reason, my Brahmin is dead (destroyed). Nothing else, just the Brahmin.. And it's in the middle of my camp, there's lots of other stuff to attack on the way to the Brahmin and it's only ever the Brahmin.. So like, do they have severe separation anxiety and just drop dead as soon as I leave the camp or what?

They die like Every other npc dies and respawns
Every 10-15mins

Since you left the camp it would think it's inactive and doesn't need the actors
Maybe don't fast travel back to and walk there

Yeah that's not how that works at all.

It's probably other players close enough to your camp for things to be happening and the brahmin is getting attacked for food by npcs. A lot of hostile npcs will be 'dragged', intentionally or not by other players to your camp and then they go for the meat.

I was about to say, "Oh that makes sense" and then I just watched my Brahmin drop dead for no reason right in front of me. So I guess they just have heart attacks occasionally.

Er, can you tame brahmin? If your camp is by an open world spawn brahmin then first poster was accurate; if tamed there's a number of bugs that can do this but they generally involve when your warp to your camp and your pet spawns in the same spot/height as a taller environmental/camp object and then falls to its death.

Players murdering your pets are totally legitimate ways for them to die, as well, unless that's updated out finally. As the second poster mentioned just coming in proximity - the cells next to your CAMP - can result in mobs attacking your base - hordes don't seem to be as likely factor since last update, though. Best I got for ya.

I'm not saying that's impossible given the amount of bugs and weirdness in fallout games, but they shouldn't be dropping dead for no reason. It's more likely taking damage from something that you don't see it taking damage from.

There are a number of reasons the brahmin could die. Apparently, they have no radiation resistance, so a deep enough puddle of water might kill them. I've seen people complain about brahmin deaths, and it turning out to be the brahmin getting stuck on other camp items (in this specific case, the various stand-ups of the Vault Boy pointing at things - removing those caused the brahmin to stop dying). If you have those spike traps, brahmin can get killed from those as well.

There is a camp item that produces fertilizer. It adds a brahmin to your camp.

Yes, that's exactly how that happens.
I've seen my brahmin and the scavenger near my camp drop dead in front of my eyes.
Same for the protectrons and assaultrons inside the Whitespring Bunker.
No damage taken from anything.

I do got those vault boy signs and a number of other items cluttering the area my Brahmin wanders, so I guess it just gets confused and dies. xD I also have the dead Brahmin item near to the Brahmin pen so future Brahmins know what's in store for them.

they sometimes become trapped under code water and drown.

No, the brahmin you can place in a camp does not work the same way as npcs like the whitespring robots. Your opinion of what you think is happening doesn't change how the game actually works.

Brahmin are not part of the npc pool that drop dead due to server congestion. They are however, susceptible to radiation, but there's no way to see it. They also take damage like every other CAMP item and are a priority target for attacks, so if they're nearly destroyed and then take some rads, they'll fall over dead for no apparent reason. I don't think the rads they take are carried over if they despawn, so it's not a common occurrence, but it they do seem to flop over dead once in awhile.

I've been using the Chinese Stealth Suit to hide in the bushes and wait until you leave. Sorry. I have a radburger addiction.
