does fO 76 really drain that much bandwidth?
I have 1000/1000 and in every other game it drains maybe 50-100 but when I play FO76 I only have LEFT 100-150, so I am asking does FO76 really need 800 Mbit/s when playing?

in sweden its called bredbandskollen.se
otherwise check out speedtest,net

just know how much you have, then deduct how much is left and you can see how much is used.
As far as i know not that much, have many apps running on the background (PC) like the game it self, Spotify, Google, Steam, Origin, Facebook (for trades) and to be honest? Never ever have any issues with a low bandwidth.

Have to say i'm from the Netherlands and we have always a stable and a very good internet connection... probably one of the best in Europe.

In short? can't say Fallout 76 takes a lot of bandwidth.

So i tested it and my bandwith seemed unnafected. No changes and i have 100 mbps down and 22 up (i did use tcp optimizer to get a better connection though)

LOL Do NOT use speedtest or any site like that if you want ANY accurate use of application network usage. If you're using windows, just open up Resource Monitor and check out the Network tab. That should give you all of the information you're looking for.

what even is this lol.
Like a humble brag for net connection? Like "As far as I know, I know nothing" should of ended that one.

Yeah it does eat a ton of bandwidth and if you have a old router it will do something to it to make it restart.

Don't even get me started on this game actually able to knock routers out. The same way the skyrim mod for mp does.

It's because FO76 is a mod the net code is quite bad.

I just upgrade

used to have a 4900k with 980 sli tis

upgraded to a 14900k with 4090 (its too powerful for desktop... I have issues with it thinking that the basic windows isn't outputting and going to sleep)

at the same time I upgraded my ancient internet

0.750 mb / second

to 1.5 gb / second

if I could run the game fine before at .75 mb / second it doesn't hog a ton

I been musing about putting a throttle for the game using netmeter or something because it sure can not need to use 7/10 of my bandwith , but either way I enjoy the game so its not that much of a bother, just curious, could also be because I got every setting to ultra or as high as it can go so it basically loads enteri appalachia all the time including what everyone does...

Yeah it would be best to limit the sliders to medium preset and adjust all settings from there to ultra and high. Except for shadow distance i put that to low and in the prefs .ini to 30000. For internet clamping what i did was i followed a guide from khorvie tech the videos are named "The ONLY Windows PC OPTIMIZATION GUIDE You Will Ever Need In 2024" head to network tweaks around the 21:30-30:00 timestamp. Then for a followup video on setting adjustments it's called "Reduce Your Network Adapter Latency (NDIS)" also by khorvie tech. So what these two videos cover is settings that help improve latency in games as well as using tcp optimizer with specific settings to get a perfect connection in game and reduce bandwith and packetloss significantly. What i did is create a backup of my custom settings so when i need to download something big i restore windows default settings in tcp optimizer then once it's done i load my custom settings. Sorry about the wall of text it's just some useful info that really works and since you mentioned wanting to limit your bandwith i thought about this.

Sorry had to say it but you made my day with a good laugh about your comment and i wanna thank you for that (you made my day :D)

Will keep it short: Fallout 76 does NOT drain a lot of bandwidth, infact? It barely does. Like i said before, have MANY apps running on the background with no probs at all (all apps requires internet connection). All depends on your internet connection.

So ignore the comment of Traveler.

Look into Quality of Service (QoS). Some programs can request more internet resources, I'm not sure if FO76 is one of them.

Searching that term may give you more insight.

Yes, Speed Test is good for checking your overall bandwidth, but not a accurate way to check and see how much bandwidth is being used by a specific program, for one that's not what it's designed for, and another it isn't accounting for other devices on your network that might be using bandwidth. The Network tab in the Resource Monitor is the most accurate way by far.
