Talking Weapon Prices - What's Worth Buying What Isn't
I run a full health trader build so I am going to be prioritizing optimal full health builds over low health builds but I think I have a pretty good idea what those players use as well.

Pistols:

Tradeable - quad exploder reloader western revolver is optimal full health tradeable or quad exploder vats western.

Something like an anti-armor six shooter might look appealing but it doesn't nearly compare to the pop pop crit pop pop crit 24 times you get with a quad exploder.

Non Tradeable - gauss pistols already have massive 30 round magazines so you want to prioritize whatever does the most dmg with firing speed for charge rate and vats reduction.

Heavy:

No joke it's simple one of the best weapon categories in the game to the point that your weapon roll doesn't matter that much.

You can just run around with a primed vampire minigun and you just won't and can't die plus your dmg will be very high regardless assuming you have enough ammo to never stop shooting.

But if you want to be super fancy there are some exceptionally expensive heavy collectors items.

Quad broadsides, quad harpoon guns, quad cryolators these tend to fetch a pretty penny because they are neat.

But assuming you just want to gib things a heavy exploding MG of your choice is pretty scary to deal with.

Really you can't go wrong here, if you're willing to invest in energy ammo weight reduction you can have infinite fushion cores and rock an anti armor Gatling laser which is quite strong.

Commando's:

Commando players are really one trick ponies, they love their bloodied railway rifles and have traditionally been willing to pay obscene amounts of caps to get them.

I think this has gone down a bit over time as the market has become saturated you can basically pick one up for quite little these days assuming a non perfect roll.

Handmades are the slightly more flavorful choice because they look like AK's but personally I really like the off brand AR's like Quad SMG's essentially taking a bad weapon and making it useable with pure bullets fired on target.

AKA the full health special.

Shotguns:

Slightly more flexible than people give them credit for assuming you have a perfect quad exploder double barrel that essentially takes a beginner item and makes it amazing, or just use the pre-roll.

Similarly there are solid rolls for hunting shotguns or once again use the pre-roll in both cases they are above average for quest loot.

Gauss shotguns are gross though, possible more so than out of any wastelanders item. The saturation of fire and pure dmg potential out of what's supposed to be a close range weapon is a sight to behold.

Again quad, firing speed, reloader can't really go wrong. It's just going to be constant massive explosions at anything you point it at.

But a quieter approach can be the bloodied, exploding, vats combat shotgun, very nice for solo work where you just want to crouch through something and one shot everyone.

Overall I would say people are generally not amazing at knowing what is and isn't "good/valuable" in Fallout 76.

We went from the only weapons that exist are perfect commandos bloodied rolls, to everyone is now on their second playthrough and are desperate for decent heavies.

To the point that most of them just use foundations vengence.

It's kind of neat how this game develops and it's economy, and I have no doubt will continue to do so over time.

Well you could take it from me given the fact that I have 90% weight reduction in heavies, rifles, shotguns.

Have infinite scrap and caps, and have all major rolls for all major weapon categories as the number 1 independent vendor in 76.

People look at just my on person stock and give me a Keanu Reeves Wow.

That's not even looking at my stash stock.

All told probably around 300 legendries 3 star weapons.

I started giving away free stock once the show launched to new players.

But yeah memes good counter argument.

Why buy weapons?

I can never use up the weapons I get from participating in events every day. . .

Quick, simple math to show why people don't listen to Nifty:

Quad Broadsider + Multishot Canister = 6 shots.
Two Shot Broadsider + Multishot Canister = 3 shots at twice the damage.

On Broadsiders, Two Shot literally does twice the DPS as a Quad.

Naturally, that's aside from the fact he plays on Xbox and not PC.
