The Dragon. A blackpowder, slowest fire rate and reload of shotguns. Also the most powerful. Impractical as all hell but if you learn to use it well you aren't likely to go back. Check out the Harpoon Gun with flechette mod for a similar effect but totally different feel.
Double Barrel. A quad explosive works fine as well as the Cold-Shoulder for tier-2 god roll and pseudo gr. Otherwise they are not something to rely on.
Pump action and combat shotgun. Very solid tier-3 weapons that get you through the beginning of the game. Definitely a favorite for first-person shooters, these two are a big example of the power-placement differentiation from other games. They lack the punch you expect after you've passed the power curve.
Plasma splitter barrel. A mod for the plasma gun. I haven't actually played with this except to do it, dislike it, and undo it but there's a video somewhere on forum by a user showcasing it that's pretty explanatory.
*Peppershaker. How could I forget. You're better off with Gauss, Cold shoulder, or another weapon-theme entirely.
Gauss. Over-hyped if not modded up correctly with the appropriate build. With the correct legendary prefixes it's the only tier-1 shotgun. If you actually wanna go shot gunner solo at events/ops this is the weapon for you; cold shoulder functions great for, or medic-prefix variations of the other shotguns function well for support.
I got shotgunner and expert shotgunner (assume the other is 45+)
scattershot
conc fire (2star)
action girl...
what am I missing? (level 35 going on 40)
EDIT. Oh, sorry, you can't get Better Criticals yet.
head and shoulders are the best - probably the residents of Andale (Fallout 3) see it this way
Hopefully the showcase was for un-modding it, because that's the most useful thing to know about the beam splitter.
Dialed in, lots of fun. Ran one for a while, certainly more than capable.
Cold Shoulder benefit is you can plink bosses or whatever until they take the cryo-hit, then switch to your "real" weapon.
My main problem with other guns is that I just can't keep ammo stocked for them. The flamer-modded Slug Buster isn't as bad, and during events I can usually come out with a surplus, but anything else that's automatic just chews through all my ammo. Meanwhile I have over 25,000 shells in my ammo crate, lol.
I'm still grinding Settler rep, so I haven't been able to try the Gauss shotty yet.
I know I'm in a super minority, but I HATE it when people freeze the SBQ. If you run melee and block her sweep attack you'll keep agro on yourself. Freezing/slowing her makes timing the block impossible.
A dedicated melee player is far more useful at controlling the SBQ, and importantly, keep agro if they also run Taking One for the Team.
Cold Shoulder messes all that up... but that also requires players to see the encounter as more than a 'shoot till it's dead' and more like a 'tank and spank' MMO raid.
Any shotgun played as a crit focus can do just fine. Pump actions are great if played tactically in a shoot 1 load 1 format. Four Leaf Clover makes them a 1-2 punch, jab then haymaker.

Wow am I bad at this game. Consider eyes opened.
Any suggestions for armor while using a shotgun? I rock SS at the moment because no one ever hit me. Now that I actually get hit, I need something with a little bit more protection, I think.
