My PA not working???

I finally traded for some Xo1 PA set and i take big radiation damage even tho i have 550 radiation resistance???? Reasons? I.E ghouls attack still give me 45 rads on hit? Is this normal and im just crazy???

It's not normal. I'm wearing X-01 lately and I stroll through nuke zones for a while before I look at my RadAway.

Maybe put either re-bared or coiled on you torso. One I think reflects malee and rads the other shocks the enemy..... :)

In the past there have been atom shop paints that jack up the resistances of power armor. Don't ask, I have no idea why.

Do you have a helmet on your power armor? There's a secondary effect in radiation zones for inhaled radiation, so you have to have the power armor helmet as well. I think for the ghouls attacks, it shows their base rad damage; but you'll actually not experience the same amount of red bar created from their attacks. It gets mitigated after the displayed rad damage I believe.
