Step 2: Be prepared for robots
Step 3: Be prepared to sneak
Step 4: Be prepared to hack
Step 5: be prepared to run
Except for the part where you have to swap out mainframe cores, you should be able to blow through the silo if your build/gear is at least decent.
Target weak points to make it go faster if you are borderline on build/gear.
1.999% of the nukes launched are done via photomode exploit to bypass locked doors to get to the launch prep area quickly
0.001% of the nukes launched are done the intended way
due to the nature of photomode I had always wondered if you could use it to place yourself behind objects.
It allows people to wall walk through closed/locked doors
so in the nuke silo you have to run the first area, then you can skip the rest to the launch prep
the mine method is quicker as it gets the player out of bounds, then they just run on the outside of the ceiling to get to the launch prep area
both are exploits, bugfesta hasn't ever banned anyone even once for the use of the photomode exploit. TTBOMK they haven't for out of bounds ones either (it used to be PA armour done)
They do patch them as best they can when they can
I went through this mandatory quest once, when you needed launch Nuke, thank god not anymore, but when I see that someone very inclined to send them, so it's nice, isn't it?
Hack the terminals, change targeting on turrets, wait for them to kill Assualtrons, turn them off. That is the way, no exploits. You get to the reactor, you have two choices, fix the pipes, or bypass by picking a lock on the first door on the left after entering the reactor floor, and hacking a terminal, that is straight ahead thru that hacked door, in the next room, to override the lockdown, which opens the Heavy doors.
Then you go to destroy the mainframe. It is also quicker to remove all the computer cores and just go repair them, "if you have the resources on you", than going to find them. Or just carry 15 lbs of them already repaired, with you already to insert.
You can leave the whole process and come back to launch the Nuke, if you want to wait for a different event to finish, I just check the map, and you can even go participate then come back.
Warning though, I have had the "mainframe" progress stop, I went all the way back to the elevator before it finally proceeded. Next time you do it, things might be weird? Make sure you can get out of there before launching so you can participate in your own event.
they really needed to have it so they had a raider questline that went oh you've launched a nuke from silo A B C... Make it require 3 nuke launches at each silo then they go ... good we've captured 52%, 84%, 100% of the data required to build our own nuke launcher interceptor from above
Then you can pay a chunk of gold bullion, script, or caps plus a nuke card to launch from the surface immediately
When you complete all 3 silos (aka manually launched 9 nukes) you can build your own remote launch facility at your camp for some high flux cost and just launch nukes yourself
Give the surface area launcher a cooldown of one nuke launch this way per day per silo
Give the camp nuke launcher a cooldown of one nuke launch from A B or C once a day
Now you've had to grind out 9 launches
you then have the option of paying for a quicker easier launch but having to fast travel to each site daily
or you have the option of one free launch daily from your campsite
Then you add in accelerated launch protocols at the camp one... by upgrading with some absurd cost (say 25 of each flux, hundreds of random junk items, 30,000 caps, 5000 gold, 2500 script, 50 nuke launch cards) you can permanently cut down the time the nuke takes to land by 20 seconds up to three times... SO you can launch and drop a nuke inside a minute to spice up the players wanting to dodge camp fire too
Add in enhanced yield protocols to increase the radius by 1.1x up to three times...
Add in enhanced capability to launch a second then third nuke
Add in plant growth factor to enhance flora drop tables
Add in dirty bomb factor to increase radiation (and make glowing enemies more powerful)
Add in extra seismic factor to force spawn a wendigo colossus
Add in a personal nuke silo launch site option once every other option has been unlocked for a 4th nuke and a nuke you can launch daily even if the regular silos are depleted... perhaps from an orbital location
Silos still would have a global cooldown otherwise, so players would knock down the ability of servers to launch them pretty quick
etc
easy to do, increases the grind, increases the use of nukes
Delete this before Bethesda sees it and offers you a job
