Not able to pick perk cards after level 50

Hey, I have a character that is level 78 at the moment. Any other toon I played, I was able to pick the perk card I wanted after level 50. When I go in to select the card, not all of them are available. I can select a card I want, but not all of them are available to choose from. Are some cards gated behind more than just level? I haven't finished the story, but I've had another toon wait until later to run the story and never had a problem picking my cards on that toon.

Am I just overlooking something obvious? Thanks.

vague. but ill give some knowledge that i have gleaned form my 1000 plus hours...
i have approx 67 level ups i have never taken. meaning i have a crap ton of cards i COULD pick OR i could pick to change one of my special points around to another.
that was basically how it worked for a post level 50 before recent changes.
i get perk card packs from time to time from the scoreboard. and no wi have a machine in my camp where i can respec my player characters perks when and how i wish. with two set ups most players choose a crafting camp set and an "adventuring" set of perk cards to swap to and from. using this machine allows you to also totally take off and go thru all the perk cards open to you.

theres 3 basic perk decks/pools.. the pocket deck of active perk cards you have in your pocket ;)

then there is the "box" of perk cards you have to pick from when ever you want to change perk cards around or rank them up or scrap them for legendary perk points. these are the extras that come from the perk card packs where you picked one card out of the set

the third is the pool of perk cards the game serves you new cards from some cards are/were level gated


so pocket deck, box of extras and pool you draw new cards from IF you pick that option.

you seem to be saying you have no "box" of extras to swap back and forth with?
i would log off the game and restart my pc. which reboots steam as well.

as for not all of them are able to be picked from? what do you mean by all? you should have quite a few extra cards unless youve not taken extras and just picked cards to rank up other cards. see the card you pick dosent need to equal the special point youve placed below level 50. pick a point in luck and slot a card in endurance. for example.
or unless youve scrapped all the extras for perk coins...

have you use the machine yet? its at any train station or i think you can just build it from the camp ui. youve posted an unteresting issue that i feel is missing soemthing simple or overlooked... as you should at your levle have several extra cards to slot in at will.

SPECIALS stop awarding points at level 50 and you will have the max 56 points to invest across the SPECIALs. All perks are unlocked by level 50 but you stop getting a per pack every level and only get one every 5 levels... 55, 60, 65, etc... the 4 cards you get are RNG, so keep levelling to acquire more packs in order to receive cards you're missing. Scoreboard has tons of per packs you can claim for a character. Bear in mind, you will have to scrap unwanted and duplicate cards to level up Legendary perks. Use a SPECIAL machine at any train station, or build on in your CAMP, to respec or review your build or create alt builds.

Are you just staying on the initial 'pick a card' screen or are you changing your filters to scroll through them? The default view only shows some cards, but if you filter on a single special stat you'll see all available cards for that stat. Use [Z] and [C] to change the filter of displayed cards - it cycles through S, P, E, C, I, A, L, the 1-point cards, 2-point cards, 3-point cards, and then wraps around.

Hi, I appreciate the help. I'll try and explain it a bit more and see if it helps. The thing that was happening was I would go into the pipboy (I), hit T to level up, hit Q to pick a perk, then filtered with Z to the SPECIAL category I wanted to choose from. I was looking for a certain perk card (Class Freak, for example) and it was not in the list of ones available to buy. I'm level 78, and kept some points from leveling up so I could get the perks I wanted to build with.

One thought I had was that I had some points from before I hit 50. Do the cards that show as available base themselves on the level in which you earned that point? So if I was using the point from when I hit level 40, would I only see perks available at that level?

I was thinking about this because I noticed when I bought other cards, ones I didn't need, others would start to appear in the list. So I bought a few perk cards I didn't need in the same SPECIAL to see if it changed anything, and I was able to see Class Freak after buying random ones.

Your "level" for the purposes of picking perk cards is calculated by how many previous perk cards you have picked. If you are level 50 but have only picked 25 perk cards from leveling up, you will only have access to perks with a level requirement of 25 or below. It confused the hell out of me at first, too.
