Open Mic The Norm?
I have noticed in Fallout 76 that there seems to be a lot of people running around with an open mic, blabbing to someone else outside the game, or blaring other noise. They join a public team for casual play and they’re just making people listen to their conversation. Can’t say I’ve ever encountered this with such high frequency in any other game. Is this a common thing? I’m still pretty new to the game. I understand you can mute. People in public events one shotting everything also seems to be fairly common, although I have met many considerate people. Overall a pretty good group of people, just that open mic 🤦🏼😆

In my experience these are far more the exception than the rule. Making them no less annoying, of course, but generally very few and far between.

Exception, you can always turn off any audio comms in the menu (if someone is spamming rap or slurs, etc.)

Very rarely hear an open mic, but I do mute any I encounter.

Lot of people? Most people don't even seem to have voice turned on.

Voice isn't much needed but it would be useful if your trying to set up an expedition.

Sometimes genuinely new people will ask questions and I'll unmute to answer but usually that leads to more questions when they hear who it is. :VBCOOL:

877-Cash Now! Get it when you need it.

Count me among those turning voice chat off. The few times when it would be interesting, fun or useful are far outweighed by the drawbacks, like some dude making baby talk to his cat, or the asthmatics who have the mic right in close.

Yeah, shut that off. No text chat and no voice chat make for better experience. For curmudgeons like me, anyway.

Unfortunately, it's the default at least it was when I started and it surprised me then. They need to change this to push to talk as default if they haven't done so yet. God knows I'm tired of listening to other people's music and whatnot.

Thanks, you know I do have a structured settlement now that I think about it....

I've been playing the game for 90 hours or so now, but have only spent a few of those on public servers. Now that I've been playing on public servers more, I realize that the private mode is not really necessary. The few times I have played in a public team for casual play I have encountered this. Took me a bit to figure out how to mute. I assume the game does not have text chat? That might actually be a feature that would be worthwhile in this game.

Let me tell you what an amazing experience it was back in beta and at launch when microphones were on all the time by default

Honestly if that were still the default but you could just choose to not hear anyone else talking I would probably prefer it because you cannot usually get the random atmosphere of people talking about completely insane things in your video game anymore

The Norm? no. common, yes.

Been playing for years on servers all over the world. Definitely the exception in my experience. I have my sound on for other players mics as it rarely ever is an issue.

Very rare to have people ranting and raving on the open mic for me. Usually it is only players asking a question about something in game or for help or trying to make friends for me.

Happens occasionally, you can temporarily block these people via your social screen and you will no longer hear their crap...

I personally just block them personally so that I will never encounter them again if they're the sort that spam nonsense on an open mic...
