Even with zero perks, VATS hits with them one-shot everything but SBQ and other big legendary mobs like sheepsquatchs. I am running a stealth crit build, with stealth and AP + crit perks.
Granted the railway rifle is good, but it still takes 4-5 shots when you are not in stealth to kill a 62 super mutant; my shotgun takes 2 at most even not in stealth. If only the guass shotgun did not miss EVERY first shot in VATS...
I'll stick with Auto Grenade Launcher. Light. Sound. Bodies tossed everywhere. Groups decimated in seconds. Let me know when you catch up.
Not everyone is an endgame spammer doing a 5mm spray and pray for ten straight.
The pinning gimmick however is sadly under utilized
Still in general not really in favor of it because a covert operative sandman beats it.
Covert 2x sneak damage multiplier
sandman +50% sneak damage
Higher burst damage that isn't actually weapon specific.
Everything else dies nearly instantly with any weapon. Prove me wrong.
All this tweaking we do for ez content :P
Tell that to the BS Windigo I dropped a fat man on, and still had to pump ten more rifle rounds into.
1. The ammo can be made at any tinker bench, you do not need chemistry bench for gunpowder.
2.The engine sound of the reload is one of the best features...
3. I used mine without VATS, it is really accurate even with the basic sights.
4. most mobs only take 2-3 shots out of stealth kill.
5. The railway rifle is better when she is in the air, for some reason it is more accurate manually aiming at the flying than the handmade. Once on the ground the hand made is swapped in.
6. Spikes can only be crafted 5 at a time...which is why i just spam the button until ive used up 1200 steel.
7. It breaks a lot and Luck of the Draw aint much help because of low rate of fire.
8. Two shot or semi auto railway rifles require VATS.
Surprisingly enough, the railway rifle does a fairly well job of not revealing yourself when you fire. Good thing the reload has no effect on noise making, lol.

I've had a Quad + bashing dmg Combat Shotgun forever it seems like.
As for a sniping, semi-auto weapon, my bloodied gauss rifle outdamages the RR while also having a silencer and not revealing my location.
imagine spread perk and reload speed perk and 3 shotguner perk (10% each, more efficient than 1 perk eat 3 space with 20%)
