What the hell? How to I make Pocketed Heavy Combat armor?
So my build only has four strength, and I'm a bit of a hoarder, so I've been looking to up my carrying capacity on my level 90 dude. Most of my armor is combat armor legendaries from random drops, so I find out that you can get the 'pocketed' plans from Grafton for combat armor and so I go grab them and come back and . . . nothing. Can't mod my gear for pocketed. I learned the plans but I just can't make pocketed combat armor. Are there seperate plans for pocketed heavy combat armor, because they aren't mentioned ANYWHERE. According to one Reddit post I found, it said that pocketed plans should work for light and normal combat armor, but I'm not seeing it. And yes, have all three ranks of armorer equipped when I try to mod my armor.

I know there are deep pocketed plans out there but they are random drops from events that I do regularly, and I haven't gotten them in the past 90 levels soooooo . . . .

I believe the plan is seperate for the limbs and the chest. Did you get both plans or only one?

leather or combat sturdy light or heavy. are you using the wrong crafting tab? did you actually read them from the notes tab for sure?
sometiems the gaem dosent think you clicked well enough or long enough

Yes, I got both plans. Yes I read them. I was able to CRAFT some combat armor and then I had the option to add pocketed, but It doesn't let me pocket the heavy combat armor I am already wearing.

Crafting is not really self explaining. Level 28 and still not able to craft combat armor. Armorer is completely decked out, I got SEVERAL combat armor plans for arms/legs/chest...and learned them, of course. Nothing. Combat armor is not showing up.
So how can I unlock combat armor, if I learned the plans?

Are you looking under the right tab? Combat armor is under light, and heavy.

Yup, looked under every tab showing up in the armor workbench, scrolled up and down....nothing...and there is no heavy tab for me. Do I need to do a specific inital quest maybe?

I am sorry if this is obvious, and no offence is meant, but I just had a couple of very, very basic questions:

1) Did you hit the "Q" key to hide all uncraftable plans? Either intentionally, by force of habit, or accidentilly?
If you did, try hitting it again to show uncraftable plans. It may be something as simple as missing a single material. Or your Armorer Perk Card could be a level too low to make the plans, or even (for the level 28 player) you could be too low a level to craft the armor you want, even if you have the Plan, Perks, and Materials.

2) Did you try exiting the game completely and then starting it again? It's an odd, old, intermintent bug. Every now and then, a Plan will not show up immediatly after it is learned. Most often this happens to me with Camp Items, but it has, rarely, in the past, happened with Armor and Weapons Plans as well. Sometimes just closing out the Crafting Station will do it. Sometimes going to the main menu will do it, sometimes even fast traveling to and from your Camp will do it. Exiting and restarting the game pretty much ALWAYS does it.

3) Again, I'm sorry to ask, but are you at the right Bench? I can't count the times that I've tried to repair/mod my armor at the weapons bench, just because I was destracted or tired. Most people do that sooner or later.

Hope this helps.

No quest needed, as far as I remember, but I'm a level 352. That was a long time ago. I know you need to be level 20, to craft the lowest level armor.

What did the Plans actually SAY? This is important.
If it said "Heavy Combat Armor Limbs", then you got the plans for the Heavy Combat Armor Limbs.
If it described a modification for the Armor, such as Stablized, or Pocketed, then you only know how to modify existing Combat Armor, not make NEW Combat Armor.
BRAN Sep 26, 2020 @ 6:02pm
well, I thought combat armor (available level 20-30-40-50) starts accordingly at level 20...
as I said...plans are known...materials are available...non craftable items visible...correct workbench (tried several ones in different locations, just to be sure)...and restarted of course.
Armorer is at level3...maybe I need to wait till I hit 30...but Fallout 76 needs a proper manual tbh.

I was considering that... legs/arms/chest... shadowed, pocketed, BOS, etc...BUT I haven't seen any plans saying combat armor (legs/arms/chest) only. If that is the flaw...could someone tell me, where to get them, as the known vendors/train stations don't offer them (to me).

I believe the plans to heavy combat armor are found in Watoga or Harper's Ferry, not Grafton, but not 100% certain there, I aint taken the time to actually find/buy them myself.

Yeah, sounds like you learned the plans for the Mods rather than the Armor itself.
You might try making the rounds at the vendors at Whitsprings. One of them will likely have something. Grafton, if I remember corectly (I cannot get in game right now) only sells the Mod Plans. I know Gram is known to sell Heavy Combat Armor Limbs and Heavy Combat Armor Chest. You need that exact wording. No modifiers.
Hope this helps.

Also, just my opinion, but the Light and Sturdy Combat Armors are terrible. Heavy Leather (which is very, very easy to aquire and cheap to craft) is much better. Even Heavy Combat Armor isn't very good unless you get the Brotherhood Of Steal mods for it (abreviated BoS). This finally gives it good overall stats. Until you can get that, stick to Heavy Leather/Metal Armor. MUCH cheaper to build and maintain and provides perfectly adiquate protection. In fact, Heavy Leather has the best Energy Resistance of the regular Armors (Secret Service Armor and Chinese Stealth Suits are NOT regular for the purposes of this conversation).
Hope this helps.

Note that Wallace, the vendor bot in Harper's Ferry, has been moved to Berkley Springs station as of update 22 to take up the Purveyor's old spot.
