How to tag targets with the Pearly Peepers binoculars?

Zoom in works fine with the VATS button
But I cant tag targets like a Recon scope does

the wiki says :
A pair of binoculars with a pearl body and brass trim. It allows the user to track and tag targets from a distance, similar to a Recon scope.

So which button to tag targets?

I haven't tried it yet, but someone told me tap Q it zooms and tags the target.

isn't it so you just have to zoom and try to keep target in focus?

2 year old thread... But the Pearly Peepers have a fairly short range to highlight. You need to aim down scope (right click) and hold over target for a second or so.

You have to be almost in melee range and not zoomed. Only use them for artillery stikes for added atmosphere.

the pearly peepers would be something useful if it could tag enemies for everyone (in team)
a scout of sorts
