Whats the MMO part?
Im on the fence about buying this game. Mainly because its labelled an MMO and i dont want to do the whole clan/guild thing again (oldschool wow player here, nuff of that)
So im wondering, is the MMO label just there because tou interact with other people or are there clans or the likes?

Can you play the game slowly on your own pace without needing to be part of a clan?

mmo does not equal mmorpg.

True, but do they not market this game as an RPG + MMO?

I don't think they really market it at all...or at least haven't for a while. Though I think it is considered more co-op than mmo. Just multi-player...not massively multiplayer. You can only have like 25 people on an instance unless they have really changed things.

Its just a play on the words.
I guess you can't really take World of Tanks or 76 to court for what defines massive. And if it makes more sales or makes the game sound better then cha ching $$$. Free money.

I was never saying how they market it now, per se, but how they did when they first announced the game. I presume they still have the same philosophy

The same as a raid in WoW.

Bethesda never said it was a MMO. Steam put the MMO tag on it.

The failed Van Buren project by the previous owners Black Isle/Interplay/Whichever was classified as a MMO though.

Only MMO I see in this game is how you level up your character, nothing else.

If this Game is a MMO, then Tom Clancy's The Division is a MMO too.

World of tanks is classed as a MMO you know.

To be honest, they is a fine line between MMO and not MMO these days. 20 years ago a MMO was classed with games such as everquest, dark age, starwars galaxies, world of warcraft but over the years the term has changed to include anything were you level up online.

PS 'world of tank' is one fine game by the way.

Cash shop micro transactions.
Subscription.
Other players that you completely ignore while running as fast as you can to complete a quest.

It's totally an MMO by today's low standards.....

Its a jack of all trades but master of none. Poor pvp - poor single player - best in a group but still janky.

You could also have those things in a SP game if you wanted.
In which case what defines MMO? "massively" "multiplayer" and "online", or "subs" "quests" "being ignored" and "microtransactions"?

iRacing is "subscription", its also "online", can hold 60 players on some tracks. But clearly isn't an MMO. Mainly because their players can differentiate between the words Massive and A Few and their numeric meaning.

Its just an abuse of the term for more sales.

It's a grey area in my own opinion. Is CSGO or TF2 a MMO by the same standards. You level up, has subscription in form of a one off payment (prime), has micro-transactions and gambling. Plus all the noobs who want to ruin your day like all online games...

Maybe a new term should apply to these type of games.

"Massive" "Multiplayer" "Online" is pretty self explained.

And has nothing to do with Cash shops or subscription.

If this is about a tag...PLAYERS put that on there. Not Steam or the publisher. The game catagories get a little mixed up though. Steam just wants to show you as many games as they can that you might be interested in. So I wouldn't be surprised to see 76 show up if I did a search for MMO. Though I think FarCry 5 even shows up in a MMO search.

Though a raid in WoW doesn't compare since it isn't stand alone. It is an instance inside of an server generated world. 76 is just an instance.

Huh? How you going to ignore other players in a single player game? There are no other players to ignore.
