You'll find it exceedingly helpful if you stay with the game long enough, and enjoy it.

When it is active it can be used to participate in testing new stuff.

But if you are never going to play it, totally unnecessary.

Why is steam forcing us to download but the test server and game at same time. both absolutely massive downloads? I got it on sale to finally see what this game is about and if it's as bad as people say or has been mostly fixed but seems odd that there is no way to unselect what you want to install or not. Luckily after test server begun downloading first... which also baffles me, i figured out how to uninstall it before it downloaded too much, then it swapped to downloading the base game instead. this is really dumb and already before i start playing shows Bethesda's incompetence

Agreed. It should be optional, and I don't appreciate them wasting my space without asking.
