How important is basebuilding?
I am not the biggest fan of it.
I actually used mods in 4 that minimized how much base-building and material for base building scavenging i had to do so i could focus on exploration and story.
I imagine i cant do the same in an Online game. So how much am i forced to engage whit it.

i dont say it is madatory but sure somewhat handy.

- cores of a build should be workbenches and stashes for ones.
- second to said other things should be resorce gatherings like getting water, a garden for food and other things and resorces on a good place.
- last but not least, if you have, buff stations. i have myself a pretty "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" home which offer all said things but is still somewhat cozy since i offer all for free (ex. resorces of course since i need them myself XD) and yea, buffs can be nuts if you have and DO use said stations like (just some samples) 5% more exp, more AP and an overall stat boost in your SPECIAL stats (of course, all said buffs are time-limited) - its srsly nice to have and handy for sure. Also buddies can be handy to have as well since some can sell you goods or new missions plus buffs as well.

Its not like youre in "need" of a huge "build" or something, though, it sure would feel more "homelike" of course.

Its easy to build. I just usually build simple shack wiht single room. So yeah it easy to build in Fallout 76.

You don't necessarily need to have a camp, or you can make it as minimal as you like. It does give lots of advantages and QoL though, and there are daily/weekly challenges that require you to build stuff in camps and shelters. You can use public workshops for camp building challenges, but not sure if you can build a shelter in workshops, have never tried.

Surely have a video or two about it. It's "creation", so you're free to build whatever you want.

You only need basic things to begin with. Once you have learned your needs, you can devlop and experiment for a "full" CAMP ... .

free fast travel , mobile storage point, plus you can sell your junk

You really don't have to put a lot of effort into it. You don't even need a roof like you did in fallout 4. You can just put down necessities and move on.

Its about a 0/10 requirement

but having a reliable place that you know where the benches are is important
having a reliable source of water that you can make food at is super helpful
having a reliable source of ammo creator, various other buffs makers or temp buff things is important

For the longest time, and any time I'm levelling up a new toon, my base consists of a platform with workbenches, a collectron, and maybe a handful of turrets, something that can be quickly plopped down wherever I happen to be. After a while though, I get bored of killing and set out building instead for a change of pace, which is when I build a proper house.

Well game after this few years has been forced to difficulty lvl of 5 year child, nothing is needed atm no junk no crafting, ammo drops at insane amount, and all carafting station, gold vendor, legendary exchange is located at whitespring, when you get there you need nothing just shot, shot, shot, shot, then join scorched quen event when hi lvl players kill it, you receive 2x repair kit and some other things that probably are worth trashing

If you want to quest you'll need a camp for the Treasure Hunter sign. Don't need anything fancy, just find a place, build the sign and a power source, hook them up.

Beyond that you can easily (once you know where to go) play completely campless.

Blues Man Dec 23, 2023 @ 12:50am

Not super necessary.

But they can be handy. Especially if you want to do your own crafting. Stations to scrap weapons, stash to store stuff, etc.

Base building can be used to give you an advantage in a tough fight. I have a whole collection of turrets built onto single foundations. Each is self contained, with it's own power supply, lights, defensive walls, etc. When I was super low level I killed a legendary sheepsquach by putting out 6 turrets and a kind of "bunker" house I'd made as blueprints, and lured the sheepsquach into the middle of them.

The thing was getting shot from so many directions, so often, that at one point it was literally running in circles.

I have a collection of blueprints that are just single foundations with as many crafting stations as I can cram onto them. I deploy them alone or in combination. One is just for stabilizing fluxes following a nuke event. Another is for scrapping stuff, etc.

And then I have a vanity camp, that's built to look like a brotherhood of steel base. It has a "garage" for power armor stations (with 5 armor displays and a rollup garage door), a worshop/lab, operations center, kitchen, and living quarters. Walls are ringed by turrets (enclave ones). One whole side of the base is the giant concrete vault building, with the huge cog shaped rolling door. When I want to chill, I switch to that base, and just kill time there.

Not like i don't on occasion enjoy to be fair.
It just felt from the way the game monetizes itself it felt like building your base/camp/town was the main focus of the game.

As other have stated it is not mandatory to rely on your CAMP
you can use "whitesprings" free fast travel as an advantage to use all the workbenches/crafting stations available in this area

There is at least one quest (that i remember) that requires a CAMP but its one of the first quests from "wastelanders" DLC

But you need a camp also for the "Ally" questlines since you need to "place" specific items to spawn them and interacted with the allies to start the questline

There are also countless "buffs" that you can use to enhance your "special" stats that require a camp to place them.

ALso, if you require any help to build a camp i bet most would gladly assist you, i know i would so poke me if you need a helping hand:broflex::rambro:
