Is there any reason to make multiple characters?
Title, aside from just wanting to replay the game. The perk card system in this game is much more versatile for creating and switching perk loadouts compared to older fallout games, and I see some people talking about having multiple characters. So is there any practical reason to make more than a single character or is it just preference?

for me its preferance and also the ease of loadouts and perk management you have now hasnt always been a thing in this game. Also legendary perks are a pain unless you decide to grind out a ton of lvls cos some build types really need perks that are that are useless for others and even at lvl 500 it can be kinda tight to max the legendary perks just for one build and i like to explore games and change things about abit

Because I can, it doesn't cost anymore than one, I get more stuff, don't have to pay any college tuition for them, I'm the Boss. See, Not like my real life at all.

Not really unless you are a packrat that needs some mules. I am sure some people have other uses for extra characters, but there aren't as many reasons to have them as there used to be.

1 for Foundation quests 1 for Raiders.

I'm up to 5, all with different builds. Yes, you can make 5 builds on one character(which I also do), but if your builds use too many different weapons, you'll end up with way too much ♥♥♥♥ to manage and a stash box that can't fit a bobbypin. By spreading out and building your characters with some synergy, you can leave yourself hundreds of pounds of stash space on every character.

With one toon when you completely want to change the build.
It takes a long time to accumulate the needed cards.
Starting a new toon speeds up the process.
I found two toons better... for me.

Plus on your second toon you get to clear up all the mistakes made on first one.
Example: I jumped right in to the story on first one.
For me that was a mistake.
Second toon is well over 100 and hasnt started story yet.

ooo right.

So, you'll need at least 2 characters to get all the achievements. The Wastelanders achievements have one on either side of the final choice.

Correct, Wastelanders. The two choices of who your raid the Vault with.

Without Fallout 1st, simply longer playing sessions with multiple characters ... .

Many reasons, but like ipsos said here ^

If you want the steam achievement, you have to make a second character to complete the final vault quest once with the raiders and once with foundation (you cant do both quest lines on a single character)

This will be the reason I make a second character whenever I get around to it.

But also, I will start storing extra unique weapons and whatever else on a second and maybe someday even on a 3rd character, so yea many reasons.

One while i played solo and a few more when friends start playing so i create a new character with them to play together through the game instead of being overleveled.

Watch what you wish for. I have 2 accounts and 50 camps and 100 something Vaults. Talking about a nightmare this has become. (But I do need more Players)

Mutations. These are difficult to manage in any way.

Having multiple characters with set mutations allows them to benefit without downsides. Or you can have a character completely without mutations (BoS roleplay for example).

For example, melee. The twisted muscles perk increases melee damage but lowers gun accuracy. You could have it on a gun using character but then you incur a penalty for a play style you may rarely use.

There is also stash management. A heavy weapon character doesn't need to store rifles/pistols/melee weapons freeing up stash space. Each character specialising in a different play style means they have ample stash for what is important to them.
