Dog Meat / Red Rocket
Anyone ever wonder why Bethesda named "Dog Meat" as they did, and placed him at the "Red Rocket" in Fallout 4? I have always wondered about that... I mean seriously I can not be the only one. And if the game was running right now I wouldn't be wondering about it now.

Bethesda didn't name Dogmeat. Dogmeat has been the name of most of the dog companions since Fallout 1 (the only exception I know of being Rex in New Vegas), before Bethesda bought the franchise.

The Red Rocket location first appeared in 3. Any potential connection between Dogmeat and Red rocket in Fallout 4 is likely nothing more that a coincidence.

It is most definitely a pop culture reference. Like so much of Fallout Easter Eggs.
