You don't need to waste a card slot with Far Flung Fireworks. You just walk up to the back of each truck and toss the package in. No distance involved. The enemies are everywhere until that last package is tossed, so get ready for a fight.
Can't comment on Vats, because I don't ever use it. I have a full health, heavy gun, tank build. I like getting up close and personal with all enemies in the game. :)
ugh...
Yet.
Another small thing that will make it easier to understand the first time you do the truck one, is that there are a total of 9 packages you must throw into 3 trucks. You pick up only 1 package at a time and toss it in 1 of the 3 trucks. Don't matter which truck you put it in. You can throw 1 into each truck or all the first 3 into 1 truck. You just have to put a total of 3 in each truck for the Objective Marker over the truck to go away.
If, LOL, "when" you get killed and respawn, any package you had on you is gone and you have to grab a new one.
haha and they don't explain any of that in the mission?
