Ballistic Fiber Stupid-Rare For Anyone Else?
I decided to go with heavier armor to offset my low Endurance, but heavy armor does not give Ballistic Fiber when broken down, and I barely find any in the world to collect (from ammo bags and the like).

So I find my 'end game' (I'm nearing 75, so I've placed all my stat points at 50) cycle is:
-Find enough BF to repair 1 armor.
-Watch other armor continue to take damage.
-Spend free Atoms on repair kits.
-Find enough BF to repair 1 armor.
-Watch other armor continue to take damage...

It really feels like the game set up it's own loop:
-Need heavy armor to not be 1-shot. (I'm still being 1-shot by assaultrons, and I have 236 Physical, 160 Energy, 25 Cold, 52 Radiation defenses)
-Can't repair heavy armor.
-Buy Atoms to fix your armor.
-Bethesda profits.

Change up your scavenging routine. Human-abandoned military camps are the best for military ammo bags which contain fiber; BOS and old military areas have a lot of them. It was a persistent problem up until the routine was second nature for play - somewhere around level 200.

If it's an issue for you be sure you keep your Intelligence armor perk on to reduce damage to your armor as that will save you having to repair as often.

**Up to level 50 = tutorial. You haven't even placed your legendary perks yet.

***Also be sure to utilize Ricochet (Luck perk). To my knowledge when bullets are reflected your armor takes no damage from the attack. Damage lowering perks such as Blocker are probably similarly effective at preventing as much damage to your armor, but you should test them yourself.

I went on ballistic fiber runs every day
online search locations to go to
if you stay the course you will accumulate a fair amount over time
when I had spare caps (often) I went to white springs vendors and bought up what I could

start accumulating fiber as soon as you can (low level) by the time you need it youll have lots

Here's some locations to collect it;

Plus;

Vendor bots will sometime carry it in bulk. Hit every bot you can everyday you play.

Players will sometimes sell Ballistic Fiber scrap in their vending machines.

I'm pretty sure it's a guaranteed item on all station/faction vendor bots just like steel.

Nope, it's random. The bots will not always have it in their Inventory.

Edit;

Unless some patch in the last couple of years changed that. I use Secret Service armor and it doesn't require Ballistic Fiber to repair it.

Upgrade to Secret Service armor and it doesn’t require ballistic fiber to repair.
Go to every queen event. Score enough damage and get 3 GOOD repair kits.
Slot White Knight (I think) and give armor better durability.

Don’t repair anything until it’s almost broken. Repairing at 50% costs the same as repairing at 1%.

Taking over/ Defending Workshops on the eastern half of the map has a high chance to award Ballistic Fiber.

Another option (What I do) is just make armor below level 35, which doesn't need Ballistic Fiber to repair. Or Swap to Power Armor and forget Ballistic Fiber exists.

You should never be buying repair kits. I have never bought a single one. Totally not needed.

Check vendor bots for bulk ballistic fibre. Get good at knowing where the ballistic fibre spawns are and have a good farming route.

Use the White knight perk to greatly reduce the repair cost and the Fix it good perk to repair armour to 200% durability, so it last longer before breaking again.

Do the SBQ event, you get improved repair kits for free. You will never need to pay atoms for the regular ones ever again.

Thank you for the info, everyone.
I had no idea vendors could sell bulk BF, nor of the White Knight perk.

I've been 'banking' level ups until I was to hit level 75 to raise my Int (My level 50 was Master Infiltrator).
But I may raise Agi instead, to slot White Knight.

Something else to add is that the Fix it Good card under Intelligence will allow you to repair your armor pieces to 200% over normal repair durability.

Yeah, so this is where the utility vs optimization argument comes in.

I would argue that if you're not using power armor that the knight in shining armor perk is manditory.

I would also argue that there are many weight reduction perks that are mandatory.

When combined with your back pack mod of choice.

"power" can be described in many ways, in your case it would be not having to repair your armor every 5 minutes with ballistic fiber.

^More Misinformation.

The Knight in Shinning Armor card is NOT mandatory at any time.

Yeah, you really just outed yourself as someone who doesn't know anything. In Shining Armor is a perk from F:NV, we have White Knight.

And no, it's not required to use at all times.

LOL, I knew I was remembering that from somewhere.

I've been playing Beth games Way Too long.

HINT: I'm SOOOOOOOOO Confused. :)

Edit; COFFEE, I need more coffee.

Yeah whatever white knight, you're right I've been playing fallout since 1 and have more experience with the franchise than 90% of the player base.

Either way useful advice get the perk that reduces armor degradation or just listen to the trolls and do nothing I guess?

That works too.
