Hidden In Plain Sight; "whitespring bunker"
So crazy story about the enclave bunker... that part is real too! I never knew. Not the in-game turn-out but that's more or less how it would go.

It is sad the rest of us are left outside to die if a nuclear attack happened. Like Vault-Tec only the "best and brightest"!

It was outed by a reporter who cost the tax payers Billions of dollars for a few minutes of fame. Even if it had been made big enough for all of us-it would have taken 7 years to get everyone inside. Not gonna happen if you only have a day or two notice. Motus in the game took care of all the Best and Brightest. A.I. rules...

It wasn't built for the public. It was built for executive members of the government to provide a continuity of government in the event of a nuclear holocaust. Which is silly, if you think about it. What's left to govern when everything outside the bunker is a smoldering pile of ash?

Ask Modus?

And who do you want to survive the nuclear holocaust?

Politicians, or scientists and other smart people?

There are a lot of Appalachia nods in the game. Was all due to Bethesda having a location scout back in the day, now resigned.

Places like Jefferson's Rock in Harper's Ferry, Lake Reynolds is a nod to Lake Shawnee, New Gad is based on the real Gad (almost had a dam named after it), Big Bend Tunnel is Great Bend tunnel and the site of the legend of John Henry and man vs. machine, the lighthouse[wvtourism.com] is a real land locked location built as a joke and many more.

I must say learning about a new area like WV has been part of the wider enjoyment of the game.

Yes I also loved learning all about it. Still have one question, where is the Rusty Pick-need to talk to MUM about some Rolls she gave me.

I assume it's associated with The Battle of Mt. Blair and the coal miner's attempts to unionise. The basement still has some lore.

There is probably a real world counterpart, most unions have 'shrines' to where they were started. So far my google-fu hasn't found a solid lead.

Another WV tidbit is Grafton Church being the site of the first mother's day. You should be the one giving mum the rolls (breakfast in bed).

Edit: Ha! Seems even Mumbles has a real world counterpart: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother_Jones

Edit 2: I think I found the Rusty Pick. The Tractor Bar.[tractorbarwv.com] It's not a faithful recreation but it's mentioned in an interview with the location scout here: https://wvexplorer.com/2018/10/11/fallout-76-video-game-nearly-set-in-pa-not-wv/
Purkeypile obviously enjoyed the reconnaissance work, especially when it came to mapping small, out-of-the-way places, such as The Tractor Bar at Mount Nebo, near Summersville, West Virginia, a unique watering hole that occupies a former tractor dealership.

Yes I remember the Rusty Pick when we first started. Some tapes in there and a quest down in the cave. It was my first encounter with a moleminer--yes I was a level 10 dead Dweller real quick.

Here's another one, The General's Stakehouse.

Now this is a curiosity. The nearest match I could find is The Wonder Bar: https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/west-virginia/best-steakhouse-wv/amp/

If you click the link or look at other pictures you'll see something odd... the building looks like the Kanawha Ranger Station (odd too because Kanawha is near the Ohio River) also fits the description of being isolated down a dirt road. The plot thickens!

So... just what is the General's Stakehouse based on?

Looks like THE RAT PACK was replaced by THE RAD RAT PACK, and the Super Mutants Servers and Waite Staff suck.

Well, if it's a "Stake" house, probably some kind of Vampire Hunting Shop.

j/k

But seriously, it's hard to line up R/L points of interest with the Fallout 76 map because the locations do not match up at all.
