Do People Still Use Multi Accounts?
I asked this on Reddit but Lots of views but no responses.

With 76 being on sale right now, I've been debating a copy for a second account, pretty much to trade but I'd also play it from time to time in a non multi box fashion (my system is not powerful enough to run more than one instance for a prolonged period)

I know it's much more difficult yet still possible to do but I also read that is a bannable offense to multi box in any fashion.

I should add that I do own a PC copy of the game but not on Steam and I've only ever played 76 through Steam while it was on a free week so I'm not 100% if that officially classifies as multi boxing or not (or if its a simple multi instances on the same system qualifier). I'd really like to have access to PTR since Steam is the only way to access it.

I see videos/threads talking about multi accounts as late as 1 yr ago but nothing more recent so I'm just checking if its a thing to use for additional stash space etc still or not

Steam has no problem with you having multiple steam accounts (their own FAQ states this outright), that by definition means they have no problem with you owning multiple copies of the same game (you have to pay for each copy after all), one on each account, what you can not do is log multiple steam accounts in at the same time on the same pc, the use the same files which locks multiple steam accounts out, there are ways around this

There were quite a few very unhappy people when bethesda shut bethnet down as dual logging was easy as pie, simply run the exe again and just choose different log in, transferring to steam has made this a pain in the but, and there is no valid reason apart from steam being a pain, as there are other steam games where you can dual log different accounts for the same game, or at least there used to be.

It is difficult with Steam as you need one Bethesda account per Steam account.

You can do it with multiple PCs, on a single PC it became more difficult as the software people were using stopped working (sandboxy or something like that).

It is easier with a Steam and Xbox account (Windows Store/Game Pass) as they can be linked to the same Bethesda account. Any atoms earned won't transfer between, but can be spent where earned and unlocks will be account wide.

I've never done it personally so something may have changed. Hopefully I can help prompt a better answer.

Appreciate the replies. I'll have to see if my wifes laptop is above potato quality enough for me to do a trade as I do not want to compromise my account at all.

I think your best bet is to ask customer support directly.

Why would you encourage a dev to do that to you? This is whats wrong with gamers...

Who said anything about Devs?
I get the feeling this is directed at me. Here is my take, if you have a question on whether you can get in trouble for something and you can't find a reply that covers the topic from support. Wouldn't you be a bit foolish to do it beforehand without asking customer support first?

@Lerch2000

Thanks for your response by the way, appreciated but I'm pretty sure I'd get the generic one posted on the website Q&A.

I'm thinking I might ask the question when it involves two separate accounts and two separate copies of the game but on the same PC. Clearly you can have separate accounts and separate copies of the game, is it still classified and multiboxing if its on the same PC at the same time. With systems much more powerful than mine and dual monitors an argument could be made for two people playing two different accounts on the same PC at the same time with one using a controller and the other a keyboard...or am I off base?

As long as they are independently controlled I would say you are fine. Multiboxing is using one set of controls to run multiple pc simultaneously.

Yeah that's what I was wondering. WoW for example has had issues for years around Multi boxing but made it so that you cannot use soft/hardware to automate characters actions. As long as you are independently controlling each character separately you're ok to do it. That boils down to the crux of my question about whether the same would be considered acceptable here as well.

I think that is acceptable as well, and within TOS so long as you aren't using them to break rules elsewhere ;)

What are you talking about?
Yes. I own a few accounts that I picked up during sales just to use as mules for all my items and caps. I made a Steam account for each copy.

You will either need a separate device, or a friend, or a trusted mule service to move items safely from one account to the other. I would say that nearly half of the people I play with and many players into trading have multiple accounts.
