turns out it's because of a refresh rate issue... anything above 60 will make it ♥♥♥♥ itself. thanks todd.. silly man

Open it with Notepad and look for

iPresentInterval=0

if it's 1 then set it to 0

This will allow you to unlock the framerate

is that whats making the screen go black?

Maybe, fallout 76 have a weird build. But often, when you have black screen, freeze, or general launch issue, edit or just delete the fallout76prefs can solve the problem. The game will recreate it at launch, you just need to redo your settings (if you delete it of course). If you are on nvidia gpu, look if fallout 76 is on the list in 3D settings (not on geforce experience, on base nvidia settings), if not, add it. It's a problem since skyrim (at least). Some playerq are always in base settings (no threaded opti, no perf power setting...).

nah, skyrim doesn't do the black screen thing. neither does new vegas or oblivion

Did not work. Restarted a couple times. Still crashing once in game. :steamsad:

the only way 76 will work is if i just suck it up and set the refresh rate to 60hz. i don't think i want to try messing around with the files.
after all, it's a bethesda game... the files are barely holding together by default.

INI tweaks and refresh rates adjustments caused problems in the opening days. Bugthesda is like a honey badger they dont give a Dermo
