Farmable dirt tiles
Unless i read wrong, these can be used inside a shelter, correct? or just inside an above-ground structure?

Normal camp only, I'm afraid.

You can probably place them but won't be able to grow anything. Plants and other resource items won't show up in the build menus as they can't be used in shelters.

You can't even place them in a shelter.

So no sandpit then... Shelters really are useless and lifeless...

Edit to go on anecdotal rant: Back when the shelters were first released on the PTS they worked much better than today.

In the first utility shelter you could snap upper floors to the existing floor and in effect change the floor covering to any owned styles. Somewhere along the line this function was broken.

The tiles started to snap outside the buildable area and then snap just above the floor (I still have some like this creating a stage in my first shelter). This bug, that persists today, severely limits the total design of our builds.

Due to various design quirks I never saw the value in shelters beyond the free one.

Timers don't progress inside a shelter, so anything that relies on them (like growing food, producing water, or recharging fusion cores) doesn't work. On top of that, even if it did, the inside of your shelter only exists when someone is inside of it. So someone would have to stay there to get your crops to grow while you were off doing something else. Or you would have to stay there yourself, meaning you get nothing else done.

I could watch your crops in your shelter for a few leftovers .

i was kind of hoping to cover the "grass" section in the living quarters section and make an indoor garden or greenhouse, maybe i'll try a structure with a rooftop garden instead.

There is a floor foundation that looks like grass. Like the fake golf turf.

Yes you can place them in shelters. No, you can't plant crops in them.

I made a dirt(ish) street using the large ones for my Most Wanted town>>>(ish).

The Shelter is an instance that disappear once no one is in it. Some logic to that im sure.

Provide players with more build space and relaxed build geometry so we can be more creative. But with a means to not big down server performance when many players are online with multiple camps and shelters.

They can be place in a shelter, but I am afraid it does not give you the ability to plant farm crops. As well as like water wells. They cannot be placed in shelter to farm water
