Also dont need to repair with repair kits, you can repair with materials and a weapon workbench, if you want QoL (quality of life) features? then sorry, bethesda have a nice reputation to make a problem and sell you the solution, so...... welcome to fallout76, enjoy your staying xD.
Repairing at a workbench is free and with the repair perks you can repair weapons and armour to 200% which is better than repair kits anyway.
Improved repair kits which repair to 150% are free from the scorched earth, project paradise and encryptid events.
I use cards that slow down breakage. Hardly ever repair stuff.
edit - although i dont wanna waste 50 atoms on them but i do like the freebies. ^^ especially on scoreboard. they give you tons of repair kits.
In the OP's defense, when you go to a bench, and want to repair, it kind of points you to using repair kits first.
