Gun ate all my ammo! :(
I've been having fun with the Furious Light Machine gun (MG42?) for a while and it became my favourite and 2nd most powerful weapon, easily taking down most things! But it ate all my almost 10k .308 ammo! I crafted some more using all my lead and now I have no lead and I'm back to using Western Spirit which is the only other powerful weapon I have but it's a repeater and a bit slower on the killing (also looks dumb in power armour being a pea shooter and all *pew pew*). It just makes the super mutants angrier. :steamsad:

I was having fun doing some West Tek grinding but well, I ran out of ammo... I tried some melee weapons but too slow. My build kinda was Sniper (Hunting Rifle) but around level 50ish I think the repeater I got was stronger so now it's that and not so much sniper. Also very squishy without PA and have to be a lot more careful. I don't know what I'm doing I guess but I would like to go all plasma/Enclave later if that helps with any recommendations!

Stats are S (15) P (8) E (6) C (7) I (12) A (5) L (4) ... I dunno if that helps much. :cozybethesda:

Any automatic weapon will chew through ammo, and the ratio of what you use and what you loot always will put you at a detriment. I use an automatic Handmade which has a much lower fire rate than the Light Machine Gun, but does a lot of damage without completely eating up ammo. I also slot the legendary ammo crafting perk as well as Ammosmith to ensure I get the max amount of ammo each time I craft it. Unfortunately the way the Light Machine Gun spits out bullets makes it much more fun and satisfying to use in combat, but I never used it because of the rate of fire.

As op says, problem with lmg is ammo, not only for free to play players, 1rst players had problems with ammo too, recommendation? roll another weapon, the issue you have is long known by all community.

About builds you can search internet, there are plenty, or try to make your own with this app

Hm, yeah it's a guzzler! Got me addicted to Psycho so I did more damage with less bullets lol! I loot everything but still ran out. Level 88 at the moment so I only have the auto lockpicking legendary and extra point in Intelligence based on someone's recommendation since every point of Intelligence equals more XP I guess. Hopefully gaining more levels will smoothen things out if I've messed up with perks or something. I hate the build stuff and using my brains hurt. I just wanna shoot stuff so they die. :steammocking::steamhappy::VBOY:

The LMG is only viable if you use ultracite .308

Might I recommend using a Chainsaw? I carve up almost everything with it.:VBCOOL:

If op likes big automatic guns a solution will be a vampire explosive minigun with shredder mod, but having one is hard.

THAT is a good idea!

LMG suffers because it uses .308 ammo. The devs decided that .308 is a rifle round so drops in rifle quantities.

It's a craft reliant gun because of this with craft yields being buffed some time ago.

Don't forget ammo smith and super duper perks when crafting, and if you can ammo factory legendary perk.

I checked my STASH and the only weapon I have that looks powerful is a Mutant's Ultracite Gatling Laser but urgh that requires mutations and that's very un-American. Then there's Love Tap, Gunther's Big Iron, Aristocrat's Black Powder Blunderbuss... Yeah, I'm getting trash I think. This repeater is doing the job for now and I don't have much issue staying alive so that's something at least. Grenades are absolutely useless from what I've seen (maybe perk related). A minigun would be nice I guess but wouldn't that eat a lot too? I really want to go Plasma Rifle or a Plasma Sniper Rifle/X-01 PA... Yeah, my heart is set on the Enclave look! :cozybethesda:

1. Pump your trigger for burst fire, don't hold it down.

2. Use v.a.t.s.

3. Make sure your build/perks covers PA and big guns, which don't appear until 40+.

I can craft you a free plasma rifle. Let me know what mods you want on it (I won't make it prime,I'm very low on flux).

My offer is good for the next 24 hours.:steamhappy:

Nah, thanks for the offer though! Really. I've been finding tons of them but they're all weak compared to my pea shooter. I'm guessing I should have all the mods by now from scrapping so many. Is that an important part of the process of getting better weapons - through modifying them/crafting? No luck from events or fat mole woman. I really just need to know what's what I guess. I'm so used to just picking up a gun and shooting like in Fallout 3/NV/4. I really don't want to go reading guides and putting too much effort in. I've got 26k caps so far so maybe I can just buy my way there since I'm lazy haha! I hate being confined to one "build" though. Sometimes I want to use a rifle/minigun/rocket launcher. Do you really need to change cards every time? Ugh, I guess I'll figure it out someday. :VBOY:

Lucky Hole mine and the Excavator will solve your lead problems. Then you'll have an acid problem though ;)

I would try a .50 cal Machine gun (Browning M2) with a Junkies Mutation, I've never used one but I've read their pretty good.

There's always the "ammo converter" to use (any standard ammo convert to .308), but it takes time.
