If modders added cars to Fallout NV that work well, can we have cars at least in next Fallout game?
I mean, I think cars would be great in Fallout 76 to be fair. And it is certainly possible and looks very nice even on an older game. Unbelievable good to drive one. I can only imagine it would be better in F76, plus there is a lot of open ground to cover. Lots of Atomic Shop possibilities.

But I doubt they will bother themselves in this one. But what about next Fallout game. Do you think Bethesda will finally have the guts to add cars? Especially since in Starfield you can fly a ship.

I think in Fallout 4 and 76 power armor is the car lol.

No cars. The game couldn't handle it. It can barely handle players walking sometimes. And the AI vertibirds are extremely janky. Not only that, but the game's terrain was not designed for vehicles. People would constantly be getting stuck on the geometry. And all the roads would have to be redone. Not only that, but the world is not very big at all. With vehicles it would feel even smaller. Working vehicles don't really fit in the world anyhow. There are very few working vehicles in the world at this time. People certainly aren't driving everywhere. They can barely keep their weapons and armor functioning.

We have cars, they are called "power armor."

Yes, you can have a car. And a pony. And a coloring book. Crayons. A 13th place award AND a participation award. Oh, and some candy. You may have all of that.

The next fallout game will most likely have absolutely nothing to do with this game. It's years away, and speculating on what it will or will not have is completely pointless at this stage.

I am pretty sure 2 is canon... far more canon than 76
The car he want and the car you think of is 2 different car.

He want car that work as driveable car just like it is in many other console and for-casual games like GTA.

Fallout 2 car is theoretical car that basically serves as "Fast Travel", it literally allows you to travel faster on the map.

Also per Chris Avellone: Nothing in Fallout 1 and 2 are canon until Bethesda canonize it in later game.

Current canon starts with Fallout 3, NV and then 4. 76 are in the grey area.

The modders care way more about Fallout: New Vegas than Bethesda has ever cared about Fallout 76. Keep that subscription going.

There was never anything wrong with adding cars to the game engine, the now defunct Defiance was running on the same (Gambryo) engine and could handle cars just fine.

The problem is the map. At first glance the map seems huge but when compared to other games it becomes apparent just how small it is. Keeping the player walking keeps that illusion of scale.

A few games I play with good maps are State of Decay 2 and Generation Zero. The key differences in those maps are they are made to be realistic. Towns have a main commerce hub that leads out to residential and industrial areas.

Fallout 76s map is... I don't know but when you analyse it, it is junk. Mr. Howard himself is on record somewhere saying BGS make playable maps not realistic maps. If Fallout 5 takes a leap up in scale and adds realistic maps then it should also add Highwaymans and Fusion Fleas to drive. Make Chryslus the star!
Fallout games made in the creation engine were built to be traversed on Foot. Fallout 76 is the largest map they ever made for the creation engine. Bigger than Skyrim even. Fallout 3, 4 and New Vegas maps are tiny in comparison to 76.

I don't think it would work, the mechanics for the vehicle modders wouldn't be able to implement it (it would have to be programmed on the server side). There is a vast difference between what modders can do in this game versus the others since they don't have access to all the files, this is an MMORPG not just an RPG.

But one thing I'm sure they can manage is to take a pre-existing camp item and reskin it to look like some of the cars that are already in-game, wouldn't run it would just be visual.

As soon as they added cars players would be mad if you could not kill other players and jack there car..

just looking at that video was painful. it looked as if it was way too difficult to drive >_<

by foot, unhampered... and free. i dont even remember that part in NV. i probably avoided it.

The map for 76 would have to be redone entirely to even consider the idea. bikes maybeee? Cars? You'd have something blocking or stopping you every 15 seconds before you have to get in on foot.

New Vegas' map is pretty flat so adding in vehicles to that game wouldn't hurt it at all in a mod or base map.

So if you had a MOD to level out all the roads would that mean all the camps including mine would now become drive thru's. We could clear all the train tracks and fix all the bridges and clear all the towns and cities and fix the dam. Wow, sounds like nothing really happened during all the bombing. Sounds like SIMS to me.

Not really, only if you care for actual physics and things like tire traction. A car would effectively just be a morph of your character like how PA is. Look up the train in Fallout 3.

The car would then 'walk' all over the map and be able to glide over obstacles just like a player, the wheels would even react to terrain differences like the players legs do but have no use other than visual.

It would look goofy though. But I do suspect BGS was trying it out with the micro cars, the Fusion Flea and Zip, as they added new model assets with Wastelanders. They are used in the Beckett quest but also replaced many cars around the map. A small car like that could work and for reference here is a video of vehicles in the old Defiance game which ran off the same basic engine as FO76.

Yup. Too many washouts etc to really drive anywhere.

what about a shopping cart that's hauled by ghouls or something :)

I suspect they'd be working on the new content than making non-RPG related stuff to appease.... not sure which part of the community that is who wants Car on this game lmao.
