Yes, it's a very powerful weapon, but not for close combat where it can get you killed easily. That "short" spin up time is a big issue, especially in closed spaces or when you are surrounded by enemies.
Why would you use a ranged weapon in close combat. If an enemy is getting close to you, you're doing it wrong eh ;) It's a weapon inteded to mow enemies down at range. Although I've had no issues using it at close range either, enemies tend to not make it that far. Plus you have the magical ability to move away from the enemy by using WASD keys as well. It's quite handy. Ok I'm teasing, but you should never be standing still surrounded by enemies in the first place unless you're using melee.
Yeah, I have Gatling but I never aim and never had an issue with that.
But I have Gauss Minigun with +25% bonus damage when aiming, so when I aim it doesn't start firing, it's just "cranking up" like forever, I have to click several times to even start those barrels spinning. So while it eventually start to fire shots I'm already dead.
So besided crank time issue I have to deal with aiming glitch too. I think I will just abandon this weapon.
Yes, I can see. In modern wars since 17th century till now soldiers never use ranged weapons in close combat. They use, I don't know, shovels?
And about enemy getting close... Enemies in this game magically spawn 2 feet away from me out of thin air, and I should not let them come close? I had 2 ghouls today spawning directly in my bunker while I was sleeping.
2x gauss minigun, 2x minigun, 1x flamer, 1x plasma caster, 1x 50 cal machine gun, 1x tesla rifle, 1x handmade, 1x chainsaw. That takes care of almost any situation I get into. I don't have any perks for the secondary (non heavy gunner) weapons, but they're so strong that they don't really need it. Tesla/flamer is perfect for ghouls getting close, but can use chainsaw as well. Whatever flavour you prefer.
You can also put something like a bayonet on your weapons if they have it, but honestly even if built for it those don't really do a whole lot of damage. Save for maybe the minigun shredder which will still damage enemies if you run out of bullets. Of course the gauss minigun doesn't have a shredder, but you get the idea.
So you carry with your characters 10 weapons all the time? I don't know, it's just not my playstyle. I usually carry 1-2 ranged weapons and maybe 1 support weapon, like grenade launcher. That's it.
