I'ts usefull like the name said to convert excess ammo to the ammo you use ( in a very slow way )
On tip that i can give is to craft rail ammo via steel scrap on the ammo crafting table and dump it into the ammo converter for your favorite ammo
But for now save your atoms. The Ammo converter is garbage and as soon as you spend them on something you settle for, something you really want will come along.
I converted 6000 rounds of 5mm to .45 cal.
I only got back 600 .45 cal.
I will never use the converter again. Its a waste.
I would have been much better off selling the 6000 5mm in my vendor.
Then buy 6000 .45 cal from someone else. 1 for 1.
Personally, I love building so buildable objects are my main sink of atoms. You can purchase what you wish, just do not buy lunchboxes, scrap kits, and other cheap (50 atoms or less). Not including profile pictures, you can earn them by playing the game and doing events, and even using gold bullion.

You can also use the support website to request from a set list items that aren't currently available. It's a bit of a hassle and as it's a support site it may take hours to weeks to have a request fulfilled.
