The dragon and B Powder rifle
I found Black powder rifle today and tested it, it has nice range and ok accuracy, worked well as any rifle.

Then I have The Dragon which makes more dmg even being at lower levels..but is Dragon more of shotgun than rifle? At least range is as good as rifle has but accuracy falls closer to shotgun.

This feels more like hybrid rifle than pure shottie or rifle..any idea how much spread is and optimal range? is it more than shottie has?

As I understand 1 ammo converts into 4 pellets in The dragon..is indicated dmg with ALL pellets hit on target or just one?

It is still a rifle with increased pellet count, more like a laser with a splitter barrel than a shotgun.

Multiple pellet weapons split the damage equally by the number of pellets shot. In the Dragons case each pellet is 25% of the total damage.

Apparently the Dragon has a built-in limb damage effect that can help it cripple quicker.

Due to long reload time the best option is to have several on quick select to change to. As it is a single shot weapon it doesn't work with quick hands perk, but will get quicker reload with ground pounder perk.

Cool weapon to go pirate mode with.

Pirate costume + 2 powder pistols + 2 powder rifles = pretty good dps for about 5 seconds until you need to reload

AH I never thought of that I could slot more same(ish) weapons in quickslots...that way I can use dragon and B powder rifle..then last can be my .50 cal hunting rifle with more ammo.

I need to test if this works against radscorpions...been hell to get those down with lever gun only..incl gulpers anglers etc etc

Still need to scrap a dragoon/black powder rifle with bayonet to learn to craft this mod?

My recommendation for black powder is to utilize the favorites wheel. If you line up 4+ loaded BP weapons you can pull off a true pirate black powder barrage (fire your weapon, toss it aside and pull another without reloading).
By far my favorite style of play that utilizes firearms.
*The bayonet is crap. Don't use it, carry a knife.

How many rifleman perk points do you need to make The Dragon worth the hopeless reload? (yes you can try to switch weapons after firing, might work if the game is responding quickly to inputs at the time)

i got a legacy Bloodied Explosive Dragon with 419 range and boy it's a shotgun with near infinite range. Try using V.A.T.S when using it instead of aiming normally, in V.A.T.S All pellets hit the same target making it a death machine.

You need to scrap any black powder rifle. Or multiple. The mods you learn are random and the modifications installed on the scrapped weapon have no bearing on what you learn. You can scrap multiple bayoneted black powder rifles and never learn the mod, or you could scrap a single non-bayoneted rifle and learn the bayonet mod.

Please do not scrap Dragon with Bayonet because it's a legacy. Dragon can no longer equipped with Bayonet so what you have is valuable

The question was about if we need to attach the bayonet mod to a black powder rifle to learn the mod because the usual way to scrap weapons to learn mods doesnt work with black powder weapons, and no worries, i dont have a dragoon with a bayonet :)

Bayonet can no longer be learned and attached on the Dragon i think, that's why a Dragon with Bayonet is highly valuable for collector now same as a 419 range Dragon

Still is a Mini-Ball gun. So they where considered rifles in the old days since the ammo was a one shot that usually broke up in pieces when fired sometimes (Who would have thought lead was weak and break apart).
Personally a Blunderbuss would be an excellent addition to the game for a shotgun of an older time period

Been there done that, and yes its real fun - but not for leveling lol

I want a PvP mode/arena that restricts use of anything but specific weapons - no more of this workshop or school event nonsense. Or just that, only in specific areas like the old sport courts or movie theaters with specific themes for each area. It would make the PvP something anyone could avoid 100% and also enjoy far more if they did choose to engage in it. A good number of titles sell on having ONLY that kind of platform, and it could easily be mini-game sized for 76. Dueling with pistols is only one of many excellent possibilities. A civil war reenactment, but with pre bomb factions (enclave, free states, military) to the death. Post-Apocalyptic sports including Nuke-ball(basketball with a mininuke, timed) basebashing (baseball melee), and golf (just golf, but you fight off increasing waves of country clubber ghouls with your clubs between strokes). Ah, caffeine.

The Dragon, while good, was nerfed. it used to be more powerful.
