TF are the random helicopters for?
- Was playing some random minor mission
- Out of nowhere, those (apparently friendly?) helicopters spawn and start shooting the supermutant base I was about to infiltrate
- They shoot back
- Scorched beast also spawns, gets involved / attacks everyone
- In the end, I didnt have to fight anyone, because they all just killed each other

Did you guys also ever have experiences like this? xD Idk if I love or hate it.

They are friendly until you start firing at them. There should have been a smaller drone with them that once you shoot down will have some goodies inside as well as a nuclear key card.

Don't recall if they just spawn randomly or if someone has to do something to get them to spawn.

Some of the workshops have a Vertibird you can repair, and once you do you can use signal flares to summon them to your location on the map.

Not super buff but it's helpful at lower levels. Along with the animal taming Charisma perks you can scavenge up a small group of temporarily friendly NPCs to battle for you. Excellent for RP purposes and people who don't use legendary gear, as well.

*Other fun piece I forgot to mention and is rather unrelated, but you may like if you enjoy the vertibots. The Artillary piece camp item gives you signal flares you can use to bombarb a small area within the vicinity of your camp/workshop.

Be warned, other players will shoot the Birds down for funzies (myself included, their noisiness is scaring my wasteland child and robot dog and I did not invite them). Have fun with it,
Cheers!

Hahah thanks for your answers guys, I guess I understand a bit better now! Now that we don't have companions, I can definitely use the free air support xD

Is there any explanation who is controlling those and why, I mean fallout-lore wise? Or are they just a fun addition to the multiplayer?

A ZAX, one of the AI computers that run vaults. Each is a different personality, I believe there are a number of storied ones and then the rest are like the as yet unnamed vaults. Check out a wiki for a thorough and fairly interesting back story. :amatoxic:

it sucks they are so feeble
i should test if it works simultaneously with more workshops that grant them

fun fact: you can see them move on the map real-time

Upgrades based on faction would be amazing. An Enclave plasma Bomber would make you tickled at least, methinks. It's a shame the game wouldn't handle the CAMP vertibird pads, but if anyone remembers the Carrier robot sky graveyard something tells me their resources aren't being utilized in the most efficient fashion when it comes to those...

Damn guys, thank you so much :tinder: , the community helps me understand the game mechanics better than Bethesda ever could xD Ill continue keeping an eye out for them and the other stuff too!

Don't shoot them down over your camp, maybe someone else's though if that's your thing.

The explosion will destroy a large part of it.

it's considered a griefing method

I know Fallout has a lot of absurdity, but '76 is just overloaded with it.

would just be nice to just use a vertibird as vehicle like in f4
point its trajectory and 2 players of the team hop on it
(ofc full control would be awesome, but i'm thinking bare minimum possibility here )
(and it should fall under the pacifist mode setting then and defensive turret perk card to strenghten its damage output )
idc bout driving in fallout, but the vertibird flight was very fun in f4

In Fallout 4 it was originally terrible, with the thing flying through buildings, and other stuff that made its pathing odd and weird as hell, they did at least fix that, to be honest though non of the maps in the fallout games apart from 1 are really big enough to require transport of any type.

but it might be useful in 76 as a combat strategy
transport in height of a team would actually be interesting
invest tons of flux to armor it up and give air support
after all it's a flying turret
(no need to pilot it, the vertibots are already doing the parkour )
point to the place it needs to go
point to it and you ft inside and shoot from the air

i'd love seeing more motherlode usage in the game
to reach deep caves
what was the deal with the Pitt, when instead we could drill in Appalachia further
so many SQB's deaded, but where do they come from ?
Queen Mother scorch beast perhaps..?
easy dlc right there
instances involving caves with different difficulties the deeper you dig/drill
