Merchant Price Checking
I wanted to start a discussion about item trading. I find this to be one of the funnest elements of the game. Rare stuff being sold and bought, shop design, etc.

Good times.

However, an items value is based purely on opinion. And this means chaos. It's great.
I want to know what people think various items are worth. Like serums. Named weapons. Plans vs recipies. So on.

Note: I think this should be under the scope of "What would YOU pay for said item?"
Rather than "What would you like to sell it for?" Because the obviously obvious answer is "obviously 40,000"

The first wrong assumption is that caps have value. They never had value because people duped the @#$% out of Nuka Colas and fluxes. Hardly anyone in the Discord markets accept caps as payment for a trade.

Think about it, player vendors have to keep exiting the game every time they get near or go over the caps limit. So what is the point is asking for so many caps if you have to close up shop so often or get spammed over the limit and get nothing.

Then you have people like me who have played since release who have absolutely no use for caps except to buy gold bullion every week. That 6k is easily earned doing dailies and vendoring loot every day.

Serums vendor for like 450 caps. Anyone selling them for less than 500 are throwing away caps.

Most plans are worthless. The only ones that have any actual significant value are rare plans a player may get very rarely. Yet you constantly see chuckleheads trying to sell ultracite power armor plans (not mods), when players get the entire set for FREE.

Ironically some of my best selling items are food, alcohol, and chems and usually in large numbers to shoppers.

Personally, all my rare plans sit in stash and not the vending machine because the "caps value" would just flood me out and I get nothing. Instead I just sit on them until I hear someone looking for them.

And Ammo. Over producing the Ammo you use and selling the excess is fairly common. As one with all the Caps I can hold, frequently would prefer buying Ammo in those rare situations where I'm out of the Ammo Farming loop.

I would also say your 2nd incorrect assumption is the idea that a Rare Weapons Value is subjective. It is to a degree but in truth it's all about the Weapon Type and Attached Perks on them. When getting a never ending fountain of RNG Weapons, the thing to look for are those particular Perks that Synergize well with particular SPECIAL builds. Those are worth a lot, everything else is just worth scrapping for Points.

There is a marginal market for pricing per Star, and selling stuff expressly so others can scrap them.. Again with a never ending fountain of RNG items to scrap that's become a bit of a dead end long term.
i just sell stuff at the price the game says its worth. Im not about to raise the price to something stupid, no reason cause the cap limit. I think the most expensive thing ive had was a rare plan for 500 caps.
Caps and Junk are pretty valueless in the game especially if you have Fallout 1st.

It is pretty easy to reach the cap limit in this game. The 40k limit in this game is ridiculous and I find myself looking for player vendors that sell common stuff at higher prices just so I could sell things like radaway and stimpacks at NPC vendors. The 1200-1800 cap limit a day is also annoying especailly after high yeild events like Moonshine Jamboree and Eviction Notice. (I look forward to the Treasure Hunter and Xmas Scorched events because it is much easier to get RID of my caps by buying their wrapping paper and pails at vendors)

I usually buy from lower level players when I reach my cap limit, then I leave the plans, weapons or armor in front of their machines so they can sell them again since I really have no use for them.
As for weather items were duped or not is pure speculation when people FARM the game like crazy, so it's easy to get a lot of plans for ultracite PA and Nuka Cola events. A lot of things like bobble heads and magazines spawn in the same places so it's easy to farm these items too.

What I would pay for an item? Something that is rare and hard to get like a Pink or Red Asylum nurse uniform I would probably pay a lot for. If people were really duping, I would think I would be seeing a lot more of these .01% rare drops in the game.

What do I SELL items for? That depends. A lot of people don't know how to get things like Alcohol Plans from BIV or don't want to farm quests every day to get the plan they need. So I charge a bit over price for these plans, simply because I do the work to get them. Thinks like Ultrasite PA plans I sell for 1 cap a piece, because I have so many of them from doing Queen events.

So if you see a higher level player selling common plans/items cheap and rare items a bit over priced, these are the vendors you want to buy from because they know the true value of these items.
To find out what items are rare use the FED 76 web site. https://fed76.info/
Some of the prices that site are bogus, but it's a good place to find out how rare your item is.

What is valuable and what is not?

The general opinion as being said you have it in other players posts, ok? but you are supposing to much, its not the opinion who puts a prize on a item/plan, its the demand vs offer like all markets of the world, so, if the rules are the same, why this outrageous prizes? as simple as that, this game community were famous to be one of the most lazies to farm items, so this is the answer of why this situation.

Want to change it? do as bethesda is making, just putting in the market most very rare/rare stuff, if they dont do it and "general" opinion wont like to farm, then the prizes only will rise up.... and most of this very rare stuff will only be traded for few ppl who really farm vs the lazies who cry but dont want to invest their time farming too...

PS: as the other player said about fed76, there is another called nukacrypt, problems you will face between one and the other? the usuals, some item/plan prizes are not upgraded, so you must change between the two to find an "standard" prize and then choose your prize.

I undershoot most things. About the only thing I sell for 4-figures is rare event plans and seasonal loot. Everything else I go cheap - at most 10% of suggested price, but lower for higher-priced items, and most weapons in the 300-500-cap range. I'd rather have the empty stash space than the items, so I price to move, and the only reason I sell rather than just dropping is because I want someone who could find a use for it to get it instead of just letting it despawn.
Yes sell that Ultracite Power Armor plan for 500 caps.
Peon had your answer.
All of my stuff is priced at 76, 760, or 7600. Only dwellers are buying it, if I priced it all at 1 it would be empty, and caps do jack squat for you unless you have Aristocrats effect. You can find far more objects you need by scavenging than from any/all vendors so...
Vendor exists to help each other out for a small compensation, that's all.

They need to either VASTLY increase cap limit or remove it entirely. Why did they make post apocalyptic America by nature communist? Hell if I know.
I once paid 2020 caps for a roll of TP.
So I sell ammo at one cap apiece, and all plans at half price. Rare? I don't care.
Usually have a couple of multi-starred weapons for sale, at slightly under full price.

As to what I buy, mostly .45 ammo to feed my Fixers, an occasional plan, but mostly starred weapons and armor to trade for scrip. Sometimes Nuka Cola too, to make nades with.

Honestly it hardly matters anymore, I've been bumping at the 40K limit for awhile now, which is why I favor Aristocratic weapons.
The other thing to consider is "customer demographics."

If you log into one server and play just that one server a day you are limiting the opportunity to have customers. The other 6-30 players may not even be interested in shopping.

Here is an example:

Like this one I found the other day.

The stats are too good to throw away or script. It could sit for months in my vending machine until a junkie build player even sees it. To anyone who aint a junkie or aint into gatling lasers it has no value. So it sits in my stash until I find a new home for it.
As Bored first said, Caps have no value once you're a seasoned player.

With that said and to answer your question about trading, trade items include;

Loon mask
Hag mask
Fiend mask
Sometimes Demon and Buffoon Masks
Red Asylum Uniform
Ultracite Calibrated Shocks Plan
Vintage Water Cooler Plan(sells at 12k and up or trade)
Tattered Field Jacket
Traveling Leather Coat
Leather Coat
White Powder Jumpsuit
Forrest Camo Jumpsuit
Responder Fireman Uniform and Helmet
Cutting Fluid Recipe*
Mire Healing Salve Recipe*
Cranberry Bog Healing Salve Recipe*
God Roll Weapons
And a few others I haven't had enough coffee to remember right now.

*These items are now a possible reward from Mutated Party Packs and are not as valuable as they once were.

Plus, RARER Camp Decoration Plans and other Plans from Seasonal/every few months Events have a high vending machine Cap value for those few times we old farts manage to spend down our Cap count.

Pepper Shaker Plan for example.

“ War. War never changes", nor price wars, it seems.

You either rely on 3rd party trade sites or a market that has infinite goods due to no-lifers or dupers. This game has no functional economy.

Well, I may be playing the game a bit differently..

I play with 2 other friends, and we collect loot to sell.
Currently need another 210k caps to finish buying the plans for mutation serums alone. So I run a shop to make money. I need the caps.

-Plans are 50 each.
-Serums are 300
-Top tier under armor 1k
-Guns are between 1-5k

Going to take a while, but it's been fun.
I find it strange to see people saying "caps have no value, im at 40k" or "people just dupe"

End game, im sure caps are pointless. I'm not there yet.
And if you ruined your game via duping, i donno what to say. Guess you're done playing. Gg.

I just wanted to see how trading was going for you guys. Instead we got this.
