but I did save him, gunned down the mutants, but he was still mad and ran at me, no option to tame or anything so I had to kill him,
Other time, in the same harpers ferry spot, I had a level 60 glowing one spawn, level diff, and he was very mad lmao
If you are checking that underpass near the Red Rocket that has the Floater spawns you should eventually see one. I've seen one there multiple times but it was when i didn't have Animal Friend equipped so I missed out.
PS: also, and this is a tip, for max benefits, try to have 2 camps in your account, 1 camp to "search and tame the creature you want" and the second camp as "final destination", why? when you first tame a creature he will come as standard lvl (and depending where is your camp, area themed, same deathclaw but if your camp is in the mire will be radiated, if is in forest, the standard, etc) when your pet arrives at first camp (the most suitable place is very near of some spawn points, less pet walk, less chance to die) you must change to second camp, pet will go to the second camp, then d/c, wait 5-10 minutes and return to game, the deathclaw will be at your second camp, but at max lvl (100), standard lvl will be the lvl when you tame it, and also themed.
But I do miss people going to my camp and trying to gun it down.
Its vulnerable, always, in your camp or traveling, but you can heal him as pet owner, just shoot at him, any ammo, no perk card required.
one, its a rare spawn and second there is a pool of pets to tame, not only the deathclaw, there are cats, mirelurks, mirelurk kings, yao guay, etc, so take it easy, imagine how hard it is, at old times there were some business involved to tame specific pets and sell them to ppl paying in caps for the service....
Definitely need Animal Friend maxed out to tame Deathclaws. From my experience they have as much chance to spawn as any other tamable pending on the region you are searching.
I've read that at one time you needed to be twice the level of the creature you are taming. But that has definitely changed, if it was ever a thing to begin with. I've tamed Deathclaws that were the same level as my character.
Your best bet is searching the Cranberry Bog since there are several tamable spawn locations that are close together.
Just follow the map on this page https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fallout_76_random_encounters
Every red square marker on that map is a scene encounter which will spawn a random encounter which includes the chance of tamable animals. I will usually start either at the top or bottom of the Cranberry Bog region and run to each location on that region of the map then hop servers if I have no luck. I usually find a Deathclaw within a few tries if lucky.
Pretty sure there is no level requirement. My wife has tamed Megasloths while around level 32 and I believe they are the other tamable aside from Deathclaws that require maxed out animal friend.
