How does scaling in this game work past 100?
So lvls 1 to 100 were pretty fun, I legit enjoyed the game. However now that I'm past lvl 100, I'm having real issues.

I'm running a sniper build, non-PA and non-automatic, and I'm not using those lame ass 'bloodied' or 'junkie' builds either because meta builds are never any fun. However I'm noticing that even though I don't really grow past lvl 50, since I planned my build right, enemies seem to. I used to be able to one-pop any Humanoid, 1 shot animals and 2 shot supermutants. Now, however, even when concealed and using a rifle with 50% dmg to Humanoids, it often takes 2 sneak headshots to kill a cultist, took me 3 to take out a Hellcat Merc. And Supermutants? I headshot them til they finally notice me, and then usually have to give them a few more. This is absurd.

And don't even get me STARTED on finding ammo. I used to be flush with ammo using the 'one shot, one kill' build, but now I'm starved for it. I run out of Ultracite .45 every day, to the point that HALF my day is just scrounging for it since I can't effectively run nuke sites for flux.

So what really IS the scaling for enemies past lvl 100? Because that's when I really noticed things changed. My build is the same, my gear is the same, but they certainly aren't.

It isn't a linear scale and has some large jumps towards the end. Unfortunately my old source is not longer available (nukacrypt item search) to show the levels and jumps. But off memory the jump from level 75 to 100 was huge for some creatures such as Scorched.

Off memory a level 100 a Scorched has around 2000 hp but only 800ish at 75. Their resistances don't change much and don't contribute as much to their effective hp (what you need to kill them).

Just another example of how BGS aren't good with mathematics and balance...

I’m level 240 and I don’t think I’ve ever gone against anything higher then 100-110 but I run bloodied heavy or bloodied fixer and just melt everything, also I craft my ammo in bulk and throw in ammo box I can craft ammo in bulk by the time I was level 130/140 I had so much acid gunpowder and led I can’t get rid of it using crafting perk cards like super douper and the legendary one it’s easy to craft 20k ammo at once and that usually lasts me a week just for that one ammo type I use a few different heavy guns so I never really run out

Things stop scaling after 100. It’s possible that you’re just fighting more level 100 mobs.

I honestly never paid much attention to levels, but I'm lvl 117 now so I guess that's it. : /

Just different gameplays, like having many options in your builds, as you level up.

Remember, Ultracite ammo is for "scorched" things, only.

If you are using ultracite ammo on everything stop, find a normal weapon and use the normal ammo for it, and you should as a rifleman be buried in the stuff, I use a lever action as my usual weapon and regularly put 5k .45 in my vendor, though I do tend to use a gauss rifle for things like super mutants and other such things, and most of my weapons are either instigating or anti armour.

Daily Ops is the place to farm your ammo.Whatever weapon you take and use you will get that ammo drop in DO..just enter multiple times to stock up on ammo...Also,check your legendary cards...some of them can really increase your damage output or give you defensive buffs to help compensate

I noticed that too, almost like an exponential gain that stacks near the end.

Huh. Ultracite has a higher dmg output than normal ammo regardless, I assumed it was the 'end game' ammo.

As far as I know, ultracite ammo has a higher damage output PLUS extra damage to scorched. at least I think it does.. I use it everywhere.
check vendors for good prices on flux . found a couple camps that had hundreds for 50 caps each.

If you haven't played since the "One Wasteland" update in Sept 2020, then yes, there was a big reduction in weapon damage due to One Wasteland. Other than that, weapon damage has been increased more often than not. Several legendary effects were improved in 2021. That +50% damage to human was only +10% before the change. Hitman effect increased from +10% damage to +25%. Exterminator, Ghoul Slayer, and Hunter effects increased from +30% to +50% damage. More damage was added to ultracite laser rifle earlier this year.

you tweak until you get it right
beth does change quite a lot

and we could all agree about the same thing over and over , but i feel this scaling issue has nothing to do with recent changes

it sounds more like you are in need of an upgrade in gear and stats
i run with 5 chars
from low to high
every update does changes
but honestly i don't feel much on my lower chars

show us what your setup is
https://nukesdragons.com/fallout-76/character
send us your deck

and ofc there could be some crazy beth thing going on
but for now this is all vague
so blaming beth is a bit cheap in that regard

I've got a scoped Sole Survivor with +50% Human, +25% aiming, and +50% def when aiming
My attack is 138, armor is 375 / 348 / 200.

Survival isn't my problem, I don't really have to spam stims though I do get to play ring around the rosy with my Cryo shotgun when they run up on me. I've got a secondary lever-action without the ultracite ammo and iron sights that I use for rushing enemies, too. I apparently should have a Gauss Rifle but I have yet to see one, so for now that's what I'm working with. Pre-100 I would stealth through entire instances / camps taking most enemies out with a single headshot. It's a fun playstyle I've used in every FO since 3, but now that I'm facing lvl 100 enemies I can't do it anymore. I do jack against Scorchbeasts or bosses like Earle, most robots give me problems until I take out enough of their limbs, and honestly my biggest issue is supermutants since they just rush right up on me in a huge group and basically absorb most of my dmg. It's just....frustrating. I hate feeling like my playstyle isn't viable, and if the only path forward is to use the stupid bloodied / junkie gear then I'll just uninstall and move on. I have no interest in those builds.
lucg Apr 8, 2023 @ 10:41pm
I think, majority of us use Auto/VATS/headshots or Combat Inhibitor (robots), exception is the "Sentinel", you aim for the fusion cores. It's the easy way.

Now it's up to you to find what makes fun while playing the game ... . It's not the kind/quantity of weapons who are missing to try ... !!! I have readed about someone naked with a "paddle-board", just to make fun ... !!!

OP you mentioned you "stealth" through camps.
But I don't see any stealth cards in your build.
Thats probably why they see you so easily.

I also don't see any mutation cards in Luck. So I'm guessing you aren't using any?

Edit: Is your armor, for stealth, chameleon and or shadowed?
