Against stronger enemies and the bosses explosive is not so great due to them having much higher explosive resistance.
I always carry at least one explosive gun on me for easy tagging but i much prefer 25% faster fire for the second star for my main weapons as it is always 25% more DPS.
If they have nerfed what we have learned to use.
What are they pushing us towards to use NOW?
Maybe kill a deathclaw with a fork?
OOH a legendary fork.
If your a carnivore, you eat them to death.

75% limb damage.

Tagging weapons, strangler builds (mostly pvp), stagger builds and pvp damage (since damage cap is 110 on players it lets you get more damage per shot)
but 20% damage is weaker than the 25% faster fire rate and explosive doubles weapon break
5 perk slots to do 12% more damage isn't generally good either
Edit: I should also mention some guns like the railway get an unusual and EXCEPTIONAL synergy with explosive
I have the same, it is a beast. Why does Explosive work so much better on the RR? Just because the base damage is so high?
Yes forgot to mention this. Explosive on a RR is amazing. Quad explosive auto RR and Vats will solve any problems you are having.
It is a big perk investment for not a lot of return on a regular gun. I usually only run full demo export if i am using explosive launchers like nuka launcher or the overkill.
I finally got a quad explosive from an event. Tried rolling for one for ages and zero luck as usual. Also got a Quad 50%Crit that is good but the explosive is amazing.
I believe it is the % of the total damage as explosive is much higher on RR for some reason. Regular explosive bullet guns only get a very small amount of the total damage as explosive. RR gets a lot more.
I have an anti-armor explosive, it's just 2-star but it's probably about as good as a gun gets in this game
