Can you lose reputation with Factions?
I'm new to Fallout 76, I wanted to ask if you can lose reputation with the Raider and Settler factions, I'm a role player, I want to side with one faction while keeping the other my enemy, If I gain reputation with the faction I want as my enemy, can I lose reputation.

yes you can, for example:

If you do the raider daily quest for Rosy, you have an option to tell the raider you hunt down, to go and mess with foundation instead of doing something else. At that point the progress bar will pop up and you will lose some rep with foundation.

There are other things like that, that will make you lose rep with the raiders in the same basic way.

That said, I got to full rep with both foundation and the raiders before doing the final vault quest. Then I chose the option to keep all gold for myself, and I thought I read before that, that loses you a ton of rep with the raiders. But I didnt lose any rep and ive been at full rep with both ever since.

Even if you do lose rep, you can just regain it again anyway.

You can do this, but there is a reason not to do so, as each faction has specific bullion plans locked behind their reputation, some can be got from Minerva, I think there are still some that are not though, depending on your role play of course you may well decide that those plans are not worth it.

Though from what little I remember one of the main quest lines from the overseer will pretty much force you to get megs raiders as neutral due to it.

Also once a faction reputation has reached its checkpoint value for each rank, it can not be reduced below that value, or at least it could not be some time ago, no idea if that has changed somewhere or other, as I tend to max both reps out then choose which side to go with for the vault raid.

At some point in time you will end up with full reputation with both sides, and as was stated above you want full reputation with both so as to get bullion plans.

Once you have full rep with either side, it is impossible to lose it.

you can lose rep its very difficult to do so

you can even make factions hostile, extremely difficult to do so

if they are hostile you can pay a guy to reset them to just above it at the wayward - the LEAST interacted with NPC in the game
