2nd wep?
so i started off with a pistol and knife.. somehow ended up at 50 with a sniper rifle (3 stars but seriously underlevelled) and a shotgun (45 coldshoulder). then i was looking around and they are talking builds centred around 1 wep.

take snipers for instance.. do they literally go around with just 1 wep, or do they slot in a melee or something when things get up close and personal?

Midly speaking trying to generalise is difficult as there are only so many perk slots and mob resistance spikes towards high level activities.

You mentioned sniper (rifleman) and it has an exception, the plasma flamer (with stock mod). This is also classed as rifle but is an automatic, short range DPS brute.

Confucius did not have a Good Telsa Rifle.

I pretty much run with just an Aristocrat's Fixer, and Vampire's Chain Saw.
Also have an Aristocrat's Plasma Gatling, which rarely gets used.

you are right about the flamer. i finally used the mind over matter and it just melted the scorchbeast (when it landed),,, though the ammo usage might be a bit high.. and can't find the corpses half the time amidst the goo.

switched to gauss rifle as sniper. energy ammo for both. (before that was using a hunting rilfle with .50 cal ammo)

I switch between two-three main weapons. One breaks 50% slower is my main rifle loaded with ultracite ammo; I have an aa lever action to conserve ammo when dealing with small groups quickly, and a vamps replenish AA loaded with lower caliber. The main rifle almost never breaks, but the vamps does habitually and the lever gets very close very frequently. **also my AA enclave flamer but I think I've actually used that four times total now; Literally melts any enemy, bosses included. After you know which weapons you like better you'll have a better idea for what perk points you have spare for other stuff. Sniper switch off to pistols is good since you already likely have the Agility assigned and can just throw the cards on when stealth isn't as much an option; personally I went explosives due to my play experience and it hasn't done me wrong (except when I drop too many splodies at once and I go boom boom) but it's super consumptive. Going with an automatics is easy to switch off for the same reason, but ideally not having to adjust perks is best. Bow is another good choice . Melee is best as a secondary for heavy weapons users who already have the strength allotted.

Because of the ability to have the cards already equipped, previously, unarmed and explosives were the best secondary weapon types to use. Explosive is HIGHLY consumptive on supplies and not useful on bosses as frequently (ah, that's not backwards at all... surely your rifle should be more effective against a boss than a pile of dynamite, an explosive plasma device, or a mini-nuke...)

Unfortunately they nerfed unarmed two or three times now - the last time was the most unnecessary, actually cutting back the *only* damage perk for unarmed by 66.6%. The idea the creators had for high level Unarmed was that a highly mutated 76 could take on a lot of the wasteland without a weapon in hand - tear apart the biggest robos piece by piece. So far showing a lot of stupid from the "good hands" the game has been left in. Thankfully for me, personally, they again nerfed something I rarely used if ever. But needless to say, the only really good secondary weapon option is explosives and given the tendency to take game mechanics away to force specific builds and styles of play I wouldn't hold any hope for them not to screw up Explosives, too.

*please just give us devs that develop the game rather than stunting it further :steamsalty: :steamsalty: :steamsalty: :steamsalty: it's like, guys you have every opportunity to do this game justice. Failures of the game engine and design will always be remembered as Bethesda's but where the game goes is sitting in your lap - "if something isn't broken don't fix it" applies tenfold when you nerf mechanics instead of fixing the things you were hired to. It applies one hundred fold when you nerf things and also break the game more. We are all aware this is not Bethesda, now.
