weight capacity; i gotta be doing it wrong
i am an early level player and took to the strategy of picking up everything. i scrapped and scrapped. upgraded weapons as i could. then, hit the capacity in storage.

i have been through everything i can think of trying to get my weight down. sold food, aid items, weapons, armor, etc. i still end up heavy on my character and in storage.

is there an "ah ha!" moment with this? like... i have a bunch of metals or wood or something i'm likely storing?

thanks!!

Some items have a lot of weight. Best thing to do is check your storage and what's weighing a lot. Check the individual weight and the stack (total) weight. Things that tend to rack up weight fast are gunpowder, meds and food. But also check heavy weapons.

Weapons, armor, chems, food, and ammo can cause weight problems.

There are perk cards that help reduce weight. Have you been building up your c.a.m.p.? Have you been upgrading your weapons and armor every 5 ( or so ) levels?

You can obtain "pocket" mods for your armor, through unlocking through scrapping armor finding/buying that mod plans. I've unlocked most of the mods for my leather armor that way.

Three of the perks I love from being a F1st sub are the 1200 stash capacity, the scrap box, and the survival tent that you can plop down when needed ( within reason ).

Ya some perk cards reduce weight. Every few days go to train station, Your stash is there, Thin out inventory ( ie don't need 300 + glass shards) Whatever the Bot wont buy DROP IT. Also legendary stuff can go into machine for script. Its a never ending battle. :)

Legendary Modules can accumulate and weigh you down. It's under MISC. They weigh .25 a piece.
I also noticed that after completing the Moonshine Jamboree and PICKING UP EVERYTHING that I wind up with 100+ gulper slurry(food) and other gulper parts(junk). Eviction Notice is another event where you can accumulate a lot of weight if you collect everything.

Get the Ammo converter from Mortimer in the Crater Core for 1250 gold bullion with a Raiders reputation of Cautious. Once a week I convert my ammo. (less now that they have the ammo storage with fallout 1st)

@BlueDrop112 mentioned fallout 1st. I'd recommend this if you are going to be a serious player. Bethesda created a "weight" problem and offers the solution which you have to pay for... sounds ridiculous, but most online games have some sort of hitch that you have to pay for. (free games are the worst)
Fallout 1st costs 99$ a year, but you get 1600 ATOMS (which cost 16 UD$ alone) a month so it pretty much pays for itself.

I have went through the same thing. Nearly always at the 1200 limit and fiddling around trying to reduce it.

A few days ago I got 1st. I build those two containers for ammo and junk.
Moved that stuff and went from 1100 and some to less than 300.
Now I know where the problem is and will be able to manage it better when 1st ends a few weeks.

Check your Miscellaneous tab , There is always something hiding in there that jacks your weight up lol

Gunpowder, grenades, missiles, 40mm grenade rounds, mininukes. All weigh lots.

Also look at you aid and food tab stuff can build up there.

If you have fallout 1st this is a lot easier, as junk even when scrapped takes a lot of weight in your stash. Also things like Gunpowder, Nuclear Keycards, explosive ammo are all really heavy. Fusion Cores weigh 3 PER core make sure you're not carrying around too many.

The weight management perks only affect you characters weight and not you stash, things will still take the normal weight in your stash.

Legendary items start stacking up quickly... If you're not going to use a legendary item, or it's not something that will be good to sell in your player store, just scrap it for script.

also, I know it's hard but you need to stop just collecting everything. Only collect things you need, like weapons to scrap for unlocking mods until you have them all, mats for the ammo your using or to repair the weapons / armour your using etc.

Lastly Plans can stack up as well, If you're storing a lot of known plans in your stash, most of them weigh .25 - .50 each....

Supposedly there's an issue with ghost items. Basically getting rid of something like a certain kind of grenade doesn't always remove the weight. Over time, you could get screwed. Or as previous players pointed out, you don't need 3000 steel. You can always scrap items for more common stuff even if they weight next to nothing. And yeah, if you're just playing for fun and don't use power armor, sell stuff like fusion cores that weigh a ton.

Water and food also weighs an obscene amount so if you like cooking or making medicine or chems be careful.

Sort out your weight issues ASAP :-) I have played this game for the best part of a year never being able to fast travel due to carrying so much stuff :-)

aye I spend about half my play time doing inventory management.....:loot: just recently hit the stash limit and I was almost tempted to pay for 1st but naw. the one thing i do not enjoy is every mod and perk i go for is just for weight management.:steamsalty: it would be nice to actually build a character and just play the game.
LatetotheParty Mar 12, 2023 @ 3:50pm
totally agree. I got all the mods for the extra carry weight. Deep pockets on all my armour pieces, the backpack that allows for more weight to be carried. I think overall, I got up to 400 weight limit allowance (with all the perks for weight mgmt also)...no luck as I'm always between 700-800. I've got around 10 power armour suits with different attributes that I want to keep, plus far too many guns I want to keep so my stash is always at the max limit.

so...I have decided to really crack down this time...
somehow, I'm back to 900 carry weight :-)

ammo is another big weight down, missles , 40mm , cannon balls, all weight alot

also take the Power armor weight reduction perk, keep the power armor suits on you, the perk does not work in the storage, typically gun weight reduction does not work in storage either, you can make alot more room for junk and misc items if you keep high weight weapons an power armor on your person, i carry about 10 suits with me as well always barely under the cap for fast travel,

tossing away missles helped me drop 100's of lbs of weight

@LatetotheParty oi that is a situation. your name fits perfectly as your pretty much playing the game in slow motion... how do you get to public events on time? or just camp out at one u like and wait?

Mostly luck! Some events, if I am 'near' I can romp across the map and get there just in time to get included. When nuka-world was added, the events were pretty regular and I could take part and I had a camp nearby. However, I have been involved in just 2 mutation events so far :-(

I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and start selling stuff I want but don't need...

As for heavy ammo, I got the ammo converter. Boy....is that a fiddly thing. Either ditch 2 mini nukes or hope you find a third to convert...and all those other strange combos...
